Our focus today in our homeschool is to move a little bit away from the normal mathematics, phonetics and puzzle games to introduce new lessons like crypto, finance and blockchain technology into our homeschooling curriculum. This is because, the world is going into digital technology and the earlier our kids get to learn about bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as well as the blockchain technologies, the better for us and our daily living standards most especially to us in low income countries.

One of the ways to survive unemployment, hardship and poverty is to understand how digital technology works and that's one of our goal in today's lessons. We would start by knowing what the key notes are: crypto, finance and blockchain technology.

What is Cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency is a digital currency in which transactions are verified and records maintained by a decentralized system using cryptography, rather than by a centralized authority.
"decentralized cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin now provide an outlet for personal wealth that is beyond restriction and confiscation".Source

From the above definition of cryptocurrency, we can identify some variables that differentiate between the conventional fiat money and the digital currencies. Fiat money is the normal dollar and naira notes that we use on a daily basis. Secondly, it's not control by the government or is it's payment restricted by any centralized authority.

What is Blockchain Technology?

Blockchain is a system of recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system. A blockchain is essentially a digital ledger of transactions that is duplicated and distributed across the entire network of computer systems on the blockchain.

One of the unique features of blockchain technology is that it duplicates the information recorded in it as a means to preserve the information.

Why is this study important to homeschoolers

  • the entire world is shifting from traditional banking system to digital banking and marketing and the earlier they know about it, the brighter their future.
  • it's very hard to see a toddler that doesn't know how to operate a mobile device and one of the ways to help them finance their activities on the internet and also become financially stable at a very good age is through teaching them about digital technologies.
  • to enhance their know on crypto and blockchain technology which is the future of world finance and economy.
  • it'll enhance their knowledge in taking decisions concerning digital currencies and technologies.
  • teaching them about the subject matter, helps them to know, understand cyber security and how to protect their digital wallets from fraudster.

I'll conclude by saying that, it's very rare for schools in Nigeria and most Sub-saharan African countries to educate kids on digital technology and crypto. So it's the duty of parents to include the subject matter in their homeschooling curriculum in order to help the kids know what crypto and blockchain technology is all about.
