Recently, I had a fellow colleague telling me that she has never been to a market and when I asked her why; her respond to me was that she never needed to. All groceries are being handled by her mom and nanny. There was no reason to visit a place that does not play an important role in her life. When I pressured her further by asking what happens when she's married and how will she manage her household, her answer is I'll be sure to marry a rich man who can afford both nanny & maids for the family.

I felt sorry for her as she will never know the true meaning of survival in life. She lives in a make-belief world and I pray that her fantasy world will turn into a reality soon. In some way, I'm glad I learnt the rules of survival at a young age & am able to be independent. I feel that all children must go to survival camps when they are young so that they don't grow up to be like my colleague.

Maybe it's just me but I've always enjoyed shopping in the market. There's always so many interesting things to see; if not buy. I'm amazed at my willpower too as I do not easily get influenced into buying things though I can be a shopaholic as time. In a way, 2020 has changed my character - time to remove shopaholic from my profile 🤔

Has this year changed your shopping styles?

With the uncertainty in our financials, it is best to stay caution in our spending. Today's caution is tomorrow's luxury.

This is the one tag and weekly challenge that I try to make a point to join; not to mention that I'm also a fanatic when it comes to sight seeing or shopping in any form of market - indoors, outdoors, food, textile, accessories and etc.

It is always interesting to see the different markets around the globe!
There's so many different cultures and beauty in this world and the more we travel and open up our eyes, the more we gain.

It's easy to participate :

  1. Go to the market! Any market will do! Food, Clothing, Plant or Animal, if you wish. You can go to the zoo or an art auction. Anywhere or anything that you pay money for a service.
  2. Take pictures! Be creative (or not)
  3. Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
  4. Post the picture(s)
  5. Don’t forget to hashtag it! #MarketFriday by @dswigle
  6. Minimum 250 words

Good for you!! I applaud you and I must say that I made sure that learning how to run a house is part of life training for my kids. I think that your colleague's mother did her a huge disservice. It would be a huge wakeup call if her life were to change overnight.

I actually enjoy the markets, but, not so much the supermarkets in town. They are predictable and boring, but, shopping through the farmer's markets in the small towns around here, well, it is always an adventure and you never know what will be available. I love going with you because even the face of the market is fun. Local people making a living, and you, helping them get there. A win-win situation. I am so happy that you have stepped forward and support the people around you. Bravo.

Thank you so much for taking part in #MarketFriday. I will be taking a small break from running the challenge and will be back in November. In the meantime, feel free to collect some pictures of the markets or other places. I am not going anywhere, posting as usual, and will be back, but, for the challenge to be done right, it takes a fair amount of time.

The entire challenge has migrated from a stroll through a market to a cultural extravaganza. ! It really surprised me, but, also delights me to know how much effort people put into it. It pointed out our differences in the beginning, but, then, it really started showing how many things our cultures share. When the day is done, it shows off how human we all are and how we basically all care about our families and others. I love the experience of it all. I appreciate the love and support given to #MarketFriday! Thank you! Truly! Your participation adds a piece of your world, and I have to say, people are interested in is seeing it. This entire challenge has opened up the world to me and so many others. Thank you again for being a part of all this!I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks so much @dswigle for your kind words
It is so important that we understand our life and how we can survive through it; be it when we're poorer or richer.
I mean when I look at these sellers, I can understand how hard life is for them.
They try very hard to make a living - at least it's an honest living unlike many others.
And for that, I applaud them and do my part to support them.
Some may say that because I'm a foreigner, I ought to shop in those luxury supermarkets or even get others to buy for me. This is something I would never agree.

I miss participating in the #marketfriday challenge. Times have changed much and I have not had much to share lately. Glad to read about your experience.

Really she is not lucky that she had few knowledge about the extarnal world. We everybody should see and experience about the survival of human being.

I agree with you.. but I realised there are many people out there like my colleague especially the younger generations who still live in their parents home.
Strangely, having a nanny in this country is very common even if their home is just an apartment.
I was made to understand that these nanny's only come and help during the day time - they don't stay over
