Cruising through Market Friday Challenge | Visit to Thai Binh Market

One thing about Vietnam is that street markets is widely available. Even more if it's a wet market where the locals go to buy their daily provisions. I'm always amazed at the amount of wet markets there are in this country or I should say in this province. Everywhere I go, there's bound to be a market - selling all sorts of things for everyone. I never get tired of finding a wet market and although they may sell the same things, it's always a different experience each time.

On this day, I decided to visit Thai Binh Market, located at Phường Phạm Ngũ Lão in District One of Saigon. This market is just 3 mins drive away and if walking, it will take me about 20 minutes. It has two sections - the indoor is for dry goods, pork meat and noodles while the outdoor caters for fresh vegetables, fruits, chicken and seafood. The seafood section is big as expected since many of the Saigonese love fresh seafood. Having canopies to cover the outdoor area makes it easier for shoppers like me. Away from sun and rain if it happens.

I took my time to walk around the place, trying to familiar myself with the items sold while buying my much needed provisions for the week. There's also an area where sellers would just display their goods on the ground to sell. These are what some would call as illegal sellers since they don't have a permanent spot like the others. If buying from them, provisions are much more cheaper. I bought several different types of vegetables from one of these sellers and it cost me half of what I used to pay. Absolutely worth it.

One thing for sure, the area is secured so motorcyclist cannot ride through the market. Everyone has got to walk in between which is way more safer than the market that is near my apartment. I'm glad I made the decision to visit this market although I was feeling kind of lazy on this morning. If it wasn't for the call from my colleague reminding me that the shuttle is leaving, I would've probably still be in my pyjamas.

I should plan for another trip; maybe next weekend since I've got plans this week and am feeling a bit under the weather. Anyhow, I've still got lots of meat and fish in my freezer. Though I should get some vegetables which I can just purchase from the wet market near my apartment. No need to go to Thai Binh Market for now.

I love all the wet markets they have there! I am in awe that almost any street you go to, there is a market! I am glad they cut it off so the motorcycles cannot go through. The fumes alone with kill those poor vendors!

I am like you. I probably would have bought from the woman with no place to put her veggies. Much cheaper? You are speaking my tune! :)

I do like that in this country.
I mean I could go to a supermarket but what's the fun in it when there's so many more things to see in the local street markets. One of my friends just told me about another wholesale market near my home. About 15 mins by car though. Maybe it's time to plan for yet another interesting trip
