Saludos querida comunidad, hace un tiempo compré para mi hijo un paraguas de Spiderman, era muy lindo y útil pues en aquellos días estaba lloviznando todas las mañanas y él lo usaba para caminar y llegar seco a la escuela, sin embargo, la dicha duro muy poco, tenía poco tiempo de usarlo cuando sin querer se apoyo en el paraguas cerrado y dobló el tubo central, al tratar de enderezarlo este se partió y por mucho que intentamos repararlo nada dió resultado pues se partió muy arriba justo en la parte que hacia funcionar todo el sistema de retracción del paraguas, lo guardamos resignados a botarlo pero era tan lindo para que solo terminará en la basura, pero hoy haciendo limpieza lo vi y se me ocurrió hacer una cesta con el paraguas, así que les comparto como lo hice.

Greetings, dear community. Some time ago, I bought my son a Spiderman umbrella. It was very cute and useful because it was drizzling every morning back then, and he used it to walk to school and stay dry. However, his happiness was short-lived. He hadn’t used it for very long when he accidentally leaned on the closed umbrella and bent the central shaft. When we tried to straighten it, it broke, and no matter how much we tried to repair it, nothing worked because it broke very high up, right in the part that operated the entire retraction mechanism. We resigned ourselves to throwing it away, but it was too cute to just end up in the trash. But today, while cleaning, I saw it and it occurred to me to make a basket out of the umbrella, so I’m sharing how I did it.

Materiales / Materials

• Paraguas dañado
• Tijera
• Tenaza o pinza para cortar alambre
• Regla
• Hilo para anudar puede ser pabilo o cualquier otro parecido
• Hilo de coser y aguja
• Silicón
• Retazos de fieltro

• Damaged umbrella
• Scissors
• Wire cutters or pliers
• Ruler
• String for knotting (can be twine or similar)
• Sewing thread and needle
• Silicone glue
• Felt scraps

Proceso / Process

Al separar la tela del paraguas y desarticular todo el sistema de retracción del paraguas se obtienen 8 varillas largas y 8 cortas, con las varillas largas ensamble dos cuadros de 40 x 40 cm, usé el pabilo para anudar las esquinas a la medida y luego corte el exceso del largo de las varillas con una tenaza.

By separating the umbrella fabric and disassembling the entire umbrella retraction system, you obtain 8 long and 8 short rods. With the long rods, I assembled two 40 x 40 cm squares. I used twine to tie the corners to size and then cut off the excess length of the rods with pliers.

Uní los cuadros usando las varillas mas cortas en las 4 esquinas creando un cubo, luego las otras cuatro varillas las coloque en el centro de los lados del cubo para dar mas firmeza a la estructura, las uní anudando con hilo o pabilo.

I joined the squares using the shorter rods at the 4 corners creating a cube, then I placed the other four rods in the center of the sides of the cube to give more firmness to the structure, I joined them by knotting with thread or string.

Como las esquinas internas de la estructura podrían lastimar la tela, decidí pagar un silicón un pequeño cuadro de fieltro en las esquinas y uniones internas de las varillas de metal.

Since the inner corners of the structure could damage the fabric, I decided to apply silicone to a small square of felt at the corners and inner joints of the metal rods.

Al separar la tela del paraguas queda un agujero central por donde pasaba el tubo, por eso con hilo y aguja lo cosí, luego tomando como referencias los pequeños postes del paraguas cosí la tela en las esquinas con la estructura haciendo puntadas de costura, luego doblé la tela al centro de los lados y cosí también el triángulo sobrante de tela hacia adentro.

When separating the fabric from the umbrella, a central hole remained through which the tube passed, so I sewed it with thread and needle. Then, using the small poles of the umbrella as references, I sewed the fabric at the corners to the structure using sewing stitches. Then I folded the fabric to the center of the sides and also sewed the excess triangle of fabric inwards.

Resultado / Result

Me gusto mucho como quedó la cesta, a pesar de que parece frágil es bastante resistente, tiene una apariencia de piscina infantil y me pareció ideal para guardar de mis ovillos de lana acrílica, aunque también creo que podría usarse para colocar la ropa sucia o cualquier cosa ligera, como organizador de peluches por ejemplo 😁

I really like how the basket turned out. Even though it looks fragile, it’s quite sturdy. It has the appearance of a kiddie pool and I thought it would be ideal for storing my skeins of acrylic yarn, although I also think it could be used for dirty laundry or anything lightweight, like a stuffed animal organizer, for example 😁
