CineTV Contest: Blue Chips a passionate basketball movie
Greetings to all movie lovers, this time the CineTV Contest gives us basketball as its theme, without a doubt one of the most exciting sports in my opinion, because you have to keep your eyes wide open because the plays are so fast that in just a second can change the score and favor a team, I liked this sport a lot in my childhood and unfortunately it also brought me some sad experiences, due to the fact that in my country this sport was little practiced and girls were excluded, This led to me having a ball in my house and practicing bouncing the ball off the porch wall for many years, being seen as the weird kid who would rather do that than play with dolls.
Saludos a todos los amantes del cine, en esta oportunidad el CineTV Contest nos da como tema el baloncesto, sin duda uno de los deportes más emocionantes a mi parecer, pues es hay que tener los ojos bien abiertos porque las jugadas son tan rápidas que en solo un segundo puede cambiar el marcador y favorecer a un equipo, este deporte me agradó mucho en mi niñez y lamentablemente también me trajo algunas experiencias tristes, por el hecho de que en mi país se practicaba poco este deporte y se excluía a las niñas, esto me llevó a tener un pelota en mi casa y practicar lo rebotando el balón y lanzándolo a la pared del porche por muchos años, siendo vista como la niña rara a la que prefería hacer eso a jugar con muñecas.

Now, speaking of cinema, I must say that although there are films with positive stories about basketball, the one that I am sharing with you today shows in a certain way the negative side, not of sport but of the commercialism behind the hiring of players. I'm talking about Blue Chips, an American film from 1994.
Aunque crecí sin practicar de manera real el deporte, la televisión siempre me acercaba al baloncesto, tanto por las películas como también por los partidos de la NBA que transmitían en la televisión de señal abierta solo cuando estaban en cuartos de final y en dado caso que ese canal fuese comprado la concesión que les permitiera dicha retransmisión, pues siempre la televisoras deben pagar para poder hacerlo. Ahora bien, hablando del cine, debo decir que aunque existan películas con historias positivas acerca del baloncesto, la que hoy les comparto parto muestra de cierto modo el lado negativo no del deporte sino de la mercantilismo que hay detrás de la contratación de jugadores, les hablo de Blue Chips, película estadounidense de 1994.
This film is about a college basketball coach, who is going through a bad time with his team, this coach enjoyed some recognition but with the current team he experiences one defeat after another, this coach is a brutal fan of the sport, but this love because of the sport it becomes a kind of fanaticism or negative obsession in his life, he has a bad character and that is why he explodes in anger against his team every time they lose a game, in fact the scenes that happen after the loss of the The first game is horrible, his words demoralize and humiliate his players, thus showing his frustration, that is why after a while he gets into dangerous territory, he seeks to hunt new talents for his team by offering them money, cars, etc. This practice, although it is illegal, is not something unknown, that is, it is a well-known secret that the best athletes always choose to go to the team that offers them the best money, even if this is not public. This coach then gets new players who promise to make his team win.
Esta película trata sobre un entrenador el baloncesto universitario, el cual está pasando por un mal momento con su equipo, este entrenador gozaba de cierto reconocimiento pero con equipo actual vive una derrota tras otra, este entrenador es un apasionado brutal del deporte, pero este amor por el deporte se convierte en una especie de fanatismo u obsesión negativa en su vida, tiene un mal carácter y por eso explota en ira en contra de su equipo cada vez que pierden un partido, de hecho las escenas que pasan después de la pérdida del primer partido es horrible, sus palabras desmoralizan y humillan a sus jugadores demostrando con eso su frustración, es por eso que pasado un tiempo se mete en un terreno peligroso, busca cazar nuevos talentos para su equipo ofreciéndoles dinero, autos , etc. Esta práctica aunque es ilegal no es algo desconocido, es decir, es un secreto bien sabido que los mejores atletas siempre escogen ir al equipo que le ofrece mejor dinero, aunque esto no sea público. Este entrenador entonces consigue nuevos jugadores que prometen hacer que su equipo gane.

The coach is equally shocked and manages to get him into the team, even though he is a young man who has serious academic performance problems.
Entre los jugadores que entran en el equipo esta Neon, interpretado por Shaquille O’Neal, esta fue la primera vez que vi a este hombre y debo decir que la impresión fue la de cualquiera al verlo por primera vez, en la escena en que él entrenador va a verlo jugar en una cancha bastante oscuro de su barrio, Neón hace espectaculares clavadas en donde dobla el aro por completo por su peso, es un hombre enorme y hábil, un gigante que ante mis ojos se veía como un súper héroe. El entrenador queda igualmente impactado y logra que entre al equipo, aún siendo un joven que tiene serios problemas de rendimiento a académico.
As always, the film has a great moral and it is that it could not only show a bad example, on the one hand the coach is submerged in great moral concern, where he realizes that his corrupt actions were selfish and at the same time he was looking to satisfy his own ego, implying that he was really playing dirty, besides that playing fair gives much better satisfaction, in my opinion it also shows how in a world where money rules, opportunities are never equitable and great talents are lost without no one sees them.
Como siempre la película tiene una gran moraleja y es que no sólo podría mostrar el mal ejemplo, por un lado el entrenador se ve sumergido en una gran preocupación moral, en donde se da cuenta que su accionar de manera corrupta, fue egoísta y a la vez buscaba satisfacer su propio ego, dando a entender que estaba realmente jugando sucio, además que jugar limpio da una satisfacción mucho mejor, a mi parecer también muestra como en un mundo donde el dinero manda, las oportunidades nunca son equitativas y grandes talentos se pierden sin que nadie los vea.
