Hobby Crush: la mayoría de nosotros tenemos pasatiempos a los que dedicamos poco o más tiempo, pero hay pasatiempos que admiramos que otros hacen. ¿Cuál es ese pasatiempo que te gustaría poder hacer también para divertirte y por qué no puedes adoptarlo en tu tiempo libre?

Cuando estaba en la universidad estudiando la licenciatura en artes plásticas, una de mis materias favoritas fue escultura, sin embargo, los recursos eran muy limitados pues el país estaba atravesando uno de los peores momentos de la crisis económica, por tal motivo incluso para las evaluaciones debíamos usar la arcilla que nos proveía el profesor desde su taller personal, por lo tanto solo podíamos hacer piezas de pequeño formato, asimismo una vez secas la piezas debíamos dejarlas en taller de manera que después que terminara la evaluación se pudiera reusar la misma arcilla, de ese modo todos los demás estudiantes podrían disponer del material, pero eso trajo como consecuencia que no pudimos hornear piezas, igualmente cuando aprendimos el vaciado con molde de yeso tuvimos que juntar el dinero entre todos para comprar el yeso y solo pudimos hacer una pieza pequeñas, pero aprendimos el proceso y ese aprendizaje era el mas importante, no obstante como dije anteriormente la limitación de dinero hace que este tipo de arte sea bastante costoso tanto para realizarlo como hobby o para hacerlo de manera profesional.

Me gustaría muchísimo volver a esculpir, la sensación de tener las manos en la arcilla, poder crear volúmenes, usar la herramientas de extracción de material, la estecas y demás utensilios, la posibilidad de modificar todo mientras la arcilla no este seca me parece maravilloso, se pueden hacer acabados increíbles, es un arte que además de hermoso es relajante, me gustaría muchísimo tener los recursos económicos para poder practica la escultura como hobby y si es posible comercializar mis creaciones, pero incluso si esta actividad no me trae un beneficio económico, el solo hecho de poder financiar mi hobby me haría muy feliz.

Por otro lado, hay personas que trabajan con porcelana fría que es también es una forma de esculpir, pero por la misma naturaleza del material así como su costo, la mayoría hace piezas pequeñas, por lo tanto aun no me he atrevido a experimentar hacer este tipo de escultura, espero algún día poder hacerlo y de ese modo poder calmar esta ansiedad por esculpir que se encuentra dentro de mi 😊

Hobby Crush: Most of us have hobbies we spend little or more time doing, but there are hobbies we admire others do. What is that one hobby you wish you could do for fun, too, and why can't you adopt it for your free time?

When I was in university studying for my degree in fine arts, one of my favorite subjects was sculpture. However, resources were very limited because the country was going through one of the worst periods of the economic crisis. For this reason, even for assessments, we had to use clay provided by the professor from his personal workshop. Therefore, we could only make small pieces. Furthermore, once the pieces were dry, we had to leave them in the workshop so that the same clay could be reused after the assessments were over, allowing all the other students to have access to the material. However, this meant we couldn't fire any pieces. Similarly, when we learned plaster casting, we had to pool our money to buy the plaster, and we were only able to make one small piece. But we learned the process, and that learning was the most important thing. Nevertheless, as I mentioned before, the limited funds make this type of art quite expensive, whether as a hobby or as a profession.

I would absolutely love to get back into sculpting. The feeling of having my hands in the clay, being able to create volume, using the tools for removing material, the modeling tools, and other implements, the possibility of modifying everything while the clay is still wet—it all seems wonderful to me. You can achieve incredible finishes. It's an art that, besides being beautiful, is relaxing. I would love to have the financial resources to practice sculpting as a hobby and, if possible, to sell my creations. But even if this activity doesn't bring me any financial benefit, just being able to finance my hobby would make me very happy.

On the other hand, there are people who work with cold porcelain, which is also a form of sculpting, but due to the nature of the material and its cost, most make small pieces. Therefore, I haven't yet dared to experiment with this type of sculpture. I hope someday I can do it and thus quell this urge to sculpt that's been building inside me. 😊
