The Haunting in Connecticut: Film to reflect on the ethics of handling dead bodies // Halloween Contest!

A few days ago I saw a publication on social networks about a foundation that was created by a friend from the university that seeks to register and at the same time preserve the artistic heritage in Barquisimeto, Lara state, in its publication it focused mainly on works of art of the Bella Vista Cemetery, a place that I have known personally and whose long-standing pantheons and marble statues are in deterioration and exposed to theft and vandalism, these are important artistic works, however this made me think about how important it has been the funeral ritual and the place of burial not only for Christians but for the different cultures of the world, in this sense although there are cultures where the cremation of human remains is practiced on a regular basis, for most people the preservation of the body before the burial it is important and at the same time the preservation of his final remains, that is to say his grave.
Hace unos días vi una publicación en redes sociales acerca de una fundación que fue creada por una amiga de la universidad que busca hacer registro y al mismo tiempo preservar el patrimonio artístico en Barquisimeto, estado Lara, en su publicación se enfocaba sobre todo a las obras de arte del Cementerio Bella Vista, lugar que he conocido personalmente y cuyos panteones y estatuas de mármol de larga data se encuentran en deterioro y expuestas al robo y vandalismo, estas son importantes obras artísticas, sin embargo esto me hizo pensar en lo importante que ha sido el ritual funerario y el lugar de sepulcro no solo para los cristianos sino para las diferentes culturas del mundo, en este sentido aunque hay culturas donde se practica la cremación de los restos humanos de forma habitual, para la mayoría de personas la preservación del cuerpo antes del entierro es importante y al mismo tiempo la preservación sus restos finales, es decir su tumba.
For Christians or those of us who were raised under these customs, even if we do not practice religion, the preparation of the body of the deceased is supposed to be "respectful", but most ignore all the procedures carried out by doctors or forensic technicians so that the corpse is "prepared" for the family to hold a funeral where they can say goodbye to the deceased, there are also cases in which, due to the conditions of the death, it prevents the body from being seen, that is, it is sealed, this sometimes has the consequence that some relatives do not accept the loss because they feel that they are burying an empty coffin, it also happens with people who die abroad and the families cannot afford the transfer of the body.
Para los cristianos o los que fuimos criados bajo esas costumbres aunque no practiquemos la religión, la preparación del cuerpo del difunto se supone que debe ser “respetuoso”, pero la mayoría ignora todo los procedimientos que realizan los médicos o técnicos forenses para que el cadáver está “preparado” para que la familia realice un funeral donde pueda despedir al difunto, también hay casos en los que por las condiciones mismas del fallecimiento impide que el cuerpo se puede ver, es decir, es sellado, esto a veces trae como consecuencia que algunos familiares no aceptan la pérdida porque sienten que están enterrando a un ataúd vacío, pasa también con las personas que mueren en el extranjero y las familias no pueden costear el traslado del cuerpo.
All these types of reflections, brought to my memory one of the horror movies that I saw a long time ago and that I liked, it is worth saying that I am not a fan of many horror movies, especially those that only seek to arouse amazement through of the blood and the increasingly "creative" scenes, but I liked this one, it is The Haunting in Connecticut (2009), it is supposedly based on a true event, although some of those involved said that it was not exactly like that in real life, it is about a boy named Mattew who is fighting cancer, he must travel with his mother to treatments constantly, on the road the boy feels bad because of what his mother seeing a house in rent decides to stop and the man in charge tells her that he would sell the house, she moves there with her son and soon the husband and the child's brother would arrive.
Todo este tipo de reflexiones, trajeron a mi recuerdo una de las películas de terror que vi hace mucho tiempo y que me gustó, vale la pena decir que no soy fan de muchas películas de terror, sobre todo aquellas que solo buscar despertar asombro a través de la sangre y las escenas cada vez mas “creativas”, pero esta me gustó , se trata de The Haunting in Connecticut (2009), esta supuestamente está basada en un hecho real, aunque parte de los involucrados dijeron que no fue exactamente así en la vida real, se trata de un joven llamado Mattew quien está luchando en contra del cáncer, el debe viajar con su mamá a los tratamientos de forma constante, en la carretera el niño se siente mal por lo que su madre al ver una casa en alquiler decide parar y el señor encargado le dice que vendería la casa, ella se muda allí con su hijo y pronto llegaría el esposo y el hermano del niño.
Here some things happen that are a bit clichéd from horror movies, such as the fact that the house was for sale because it had a particular "story", in this case the house was an old funeral home, the other thing is that the father has alcohol problems , something that was made popular by the movie The Shining, the other cliché is that the child begins to see the dead, something that is also repeated in The Shining and Sixth Sense, but beyond that I think it's a good movie with all those coincidences, it is a psychological movie, the boy Mattew begins to see another boy but he is burned, then Mattew talks about his visions to a priest friend who also suffers from cancer, who suggests that he ask the specter what It is what he wants, but little by little the terror begins when more abnormal things begin to happen in the house, his mother begins to see how her son, who is already sick, is suffering from supernatural things in the house that even takes They completely change their attitude, meanwhile they begin to find strange objects at home, from when the funeral home was there and they discover that spiritism sessions were held there where they used a child as a medium, this child that they see in photos is the same boy that Matthew sees.
Aquí pasan algunas cosas un poco cliché de las películas terror, como por ejemplo que la casa estuviera en venta por tener una “historia” particular, es este caso la casa era una antigua funeraria, la otra cosa es que el padre tiene problemas de alcohol, algo que se hizo popular por la película el Resplandor, el otro cliché es que el chico empieza a ver a los muertos, algo que se repite también en el Resplandor y en Sexto Sentido, pero más allá de eso considero que es una buena película con todas esas coincidencias, es una película psicológica, el niño Mattew empieza a ver a otro niño pero que está quemado, entonces Mattew le habla de sus visiones a un amigo sacerdote que también sufre de cancer, quien le sugiere que le pregunte al espectro que es lo que quiere, pero poco a poco comienza el terror cuando empiezan a suceder cosas más anormales en al casa, su mamá empieza a ver como su hijo que ya de por sí está enfermo está sufriendo por cosas sobrenaturales en la casa que incluso llegan a cambiar por completo su actitud, mientras tanto comienzan a encontrar objetos extraños en casa, de cuando estaba la funeraria y descubren que allí se hacían sesiones de espiritismo donde usaban como médium a un niño, este niño que lo ven por fotos es el mismo niño que Mattew ve.
In the things that the child sees, there is the funeral home manager making "unusual" preparations on the corpses, I would not like to give so many spoilers if they have never seen this movie but it is necessary, but it could be said that I did not give him that respect at all that the deceased deserve, to the point that it is discovered that the man used those bodies to enhance the spiritualism sessions that they practiced with the child. With all this happening Mattew is the most affected, he tries with his mother to find out the truth and they discover that before there was a cemetery nearby but that when they exhumed the bodies they were not there, so the person in charge was obviously the owner of the funeral home.
En las cosas que el niño ve , esta el encargado de la funeraria haciendo preparativos “inusuales” en los cadáveres, no me gustaría dar tanto spoiler si no han visto nunca esta película pero es necesario, pero podría decirse que para nada le daba ese respeto que los difuntos merecen, al punto de que se descubre que el hombre usaba esos cuerpos para potenciar las sesiones de espiritismo que practicaban con el niño. Con todo esto sucediendo Mattew es el más afectado, este intenta con su madre saber la verdad y descubren que antes habían un cementerio cerca pero que cuando exhumaron los cuerpos no estaban allí, así que el responsable era obviamente el dueño de la funeraria.
Just imagine the situation, that a relative dies and that the person in charge of the funeral home does unethical practices with the corpse in search of improvements in his psychic and paranormal investigations, that is, I don't know if that terrifies you but it should worry you at least, besides that something that is not far from reality, because in my country and in the same Cemetery that I told you about at the beginning of the publication, I myself have photographed desecrated tombs where they have extracted the bones of the people who rested there "eternally" to surely practice with these acts of witchcraft. Therefore, although many people affirm that the body does not matter when there is no life in it, the truth is that the manipulation of human remains will always be seen as unethical, where the religion and customs of the people will always be topic of discussion, because while some defend the free belief, attacking someone else's property is a crime, then the body of a person has rights even after his death, tell me what you think about this topic, about the preservation of bodies, about the illegal manipulation of the corpses, does it scare you to think that these bodies still have a soul that seeks rest? Solo imaginen la situación, que un familiar fallece y que el encargado de la funeraria haga con el cadáver prácticas poco éticas en busca de mejoras sus investigaciones psíquicas y paranormales, es decir, eso no se si les aterroriza pero mínimo los debe preocupar, además que algo que no está lejos de la realidad, porque en mi país y en el mismo Cementerio del cual les conté al principio de publicación, yo he misma he fotografiado tumbas profanadas en donde han extraído las osamenta de las personas que allí descansaban “eternamente” para seguramente practicar con estos actos de brujería. Por lo que, aunque muchas personas afirman que el cuerpo no importa cuando ya no hay vida en este, lo cierto es que la manipulación de restos humanos siempre será visto como poco ético, donde la religión y las costumbres de la gente siempre va a ser tema de discusión, porque mientras unos defienden el libre credo, atentar a un bien ajeno es delito, entonces el cuerpo de una persona tiene derechos incluso después de su fallecimiento, ustedes díganme que piensan de este tema, de la preservación de los cuerpos, de la manipulación no legal de los cadáveres, ¿les asusta pensar que estos cuerpos aún tengan un alma que busque descanso? Vi la película hace mucho tiempo, me pareció buena, muy tenebrosa con eso de los cadáveres y la sesiones de espiritismo. Recuerdo donde encontraron los cadáveres, eso fue feo y el final bastante inesperado. Hace años que no la pasan en la tv para volverla a ver y recordar muchas de sus escenas.
Si ya tiene bastante tiempo, aunque yo nunca la vi en televisión, me alegra que la transmitieran. Saludos 🤗
No olvides el cliche de escribir en los cadaveres, algo que ya hemos visto a decir basta en historias de horror mas antiguas y que no pasaron a filme en ese contexto como fue book of blood de Clive Baker y algunas de las entonces desconocidas historias de los Warren... Esta peli diria que es un remix excelente entre todos los cliches posibles jajaja.
Esta pelicula esta basada en esa casa que fue examinada por los Warren de hecho dijeron que en esa casa se encontraban cosas más feas por así decirlo. Gracias por tu comentario 🤗
Los warrens siempre dijeron cosas similares, asi que con el tiempo he comenzado a dudar de muchas de sus investigaciones, aunque de algunas otras... Les temo.
Recuerdo haber visto esta película, la pasaron por televisión, la verdad es así, esto es algo sucede, muchos profanan las tumbas, más que todos esos que se consideran brujos, charlatanes a mi parecer para hacer este tipo de actos inhumanos, así la persona está muerte, era alguien y merece respeto, poder descansar en paz, tampoco soy muy fans de este tipo de peliculas, pero algunas resultan entretenidas, saludos.

Gracias por la invitación, también he visto la película y también conozco la historia real de algún canal de YouTube que cuenta la historia verdadera de las historias paranormales que han sido llevadas al cine, de más esta decir que me gusta mucho aunque si es aterrador ver la cantidad de cadáveres que son descubiertos en e lugar y aunque es cierto que tiene elementos repetitivos no llega a ser agotadora, te mantiene atento (como pocas) hasta el desenlace de la historia! Como muchos de los que han comentando creo que también la vi en tv y no estoy segura si me he perdido uno que otro fragmento.
En cuanto al cementerio es algo terrible y es algo que se suscita mucho en esta temporada y no se limita solo al cementerio de Barquisimeto y tambien me parece un acto atroz el exhumar a los cadáveres de sus tumbas y más cuando son para prácticas tan oscuras
