(No Longer A) Dollar Store: A Sure Sign of Inflation

Spent Some Time Today at Dollar Tree

One of my favorite store, because sometimes we find products that are worth more than a dollar. We entered the store and saw a sign that said "$1.25". I figured it was an anomaly, sometimes a few "premium" products are more than $1.00.

But then I walked around the store and found everything was $1.25

Many Empty Shelves

It's disheartening seeing all the gaps on the shelves. From what I understand, because of unemployment economic incentives and mandates and a lack of willingness to work (combined with supply chain issues), many items are not making it to the shelves. In some cases, they're simply out of stock, in other cases (I believe) the stock is in the back but never got placed on the shelves.

It's not uncommon now to see a pallet of product with no price listed, still in the plastic wrap as if it came straight off the truck. It's lazy and unprofessional, but I suppose we're getting a taste of #newnormal.

Something's Gotta Give

What would cause hard-working citizens to give up on their jobs? Are they working better jobs? Are they collecting a (UBI) unemployment check from the gov? Who knows.

Is this the kind of economy we want for ourselves? What is the future of brick-and-mortar retail stores, will they exist at all in the future? Is Amazon and Walmart going to rule the world?

These are important questions to ask ourselves. Do we really want this future for ourselves and our children?

Encouraging Consumers to Stay Home

Other stores take strides to (even if unintentionally) discourage patrons from visiting the stores. There are many people who have not consented to the jab and do not wear masks (I'm describing myself and my family), yet there are signs everywhere, using subtle language to make it known this is not acceptable at their establishment.

(This gem was found at a Bath and Body Works)

We entered and browsed without controversy, thankfully the staff there were more interested in conducting business, than pressuring customers to comply with outrageous corporate policy.

How long before someone is in the front verifying paperwork before entry? Is that any way to run a business?

The pandemic is over, this is all stupid. Why has everything become stupid?

Encouraging Consumers to Stay Home

Your situation is much better than ours. I can say "forcing" instead of "encouraging". This is what our (the Hungarian) government do.

Increasing the prices of the products, while keeping the salaries/incomes of the people under the minimum wage, and not increasing the pension minimum since more than a decade (!) is the best way both to force people to stay home, and also to oppress/suppress them. The pension minimum is 28 500 HUF (currently $90.66 USD) per month. And they have not changed this in the previous 15 years. 15 years.

Imagine receiving and having to live with $90.66 USD per month. Many people live with this. My pension-like income for my multiple disabilities is approximately $250 USD per month. I also work as a packager in a four hours per day part time job, but my total income, which is approximately only $470 USD per month, still does not reach the local minimum wage, which is approximately $550 USD per month.

This is financial discrimination. This is Hungary. Huge shame. And no do anything against this tyrant government. This is also a huge shame.

I maintain that the only reason it's better here, is that the globalists have failed in their attempts to disarm US citizens. It would be a lot like Canada and Australia right now, if that wasn't the case. The narrative is crumbling and even the blue-pills are slapping their foreheads saying "we've been had!"

It is a massive shame that fixed incomes are never adjusted for inflation. It becomes worth less and less. At least with a business, margins can be controlled. It's never fun or popular to raise prices, but that's what naturally happens during inflationary times. I don't like seeing a store famous for 1.00 products selling at 1.25 - but I pretty much have to do the same in my business to cover additional expenses. And my competition also has to either raise prices or take a loss. It really hurts everyone.

A hefty 25% markup! This entire thing is just ridiculous now and laughable honestly. I remember the day our government told me who I could go see for the holidays and that it had to be limited to just 5 people LOL who the F do they think they are telling me what I can and can't do.

It's evil. Sometimes laughing at evil helps further the fight, but not submitting goes a lot further. There are forces at work that literally want to control the entire world. They don't realize that as history shows, it never goes well for those in power who trample on the rights of citizens. They are greatly outnumbered and massively outsmarted. They feel confident because they have the thrones and the boom booms and badges - but at least around here, there's more boom booms in the hands of the citizens than any government forces. !WINE

Awww man! Now even the Dollar Tree is not a true dollar store any more! Go figure. Reminds me when I first heard the term dime store, imagining what it must have been like to buy anything they offered for a dime! Needless to say, those stores were probably gone long before my time, only the word remained. So I guess at some point (maybe around the time the Fed was created in 1906) there must have been also actual penny stores selling similarly cheap items, which sometimes were worth more. Two zeros added in a century...!
