Desde hace mucho tiempo María me ha confesado que su estancia en la panadería es transitoria, que no piensa quedarse allí hasta la edad de la jubilación. Y no es que el trabajo le desagrade del todo. Sí es verdad que es un poco agotador, pero tratar con el público es algo que a ella le gusta mucho, se le da fácil el trato con los demás, le llama la atención tener ese contacto con tantas personalidades y temperamentos distintos, y hasta ha podido tener unos cuantos amigos entre su amplia clientela…

En nuestras conversaciones me doy cuenta que María tiene claro cuáles son sus fortalezas…— ¿Sabes algo…? Me encanta hacer manualidades, tengo un excelente ojo para el tejido. De noche y en mis días libres agarro un rato las agujas y me pongo a hacer cualquier cosa. La gente dice que sé tejer muy lindo… La semana pasada le mostré una manta a la señora que compra las pañotas (pan redondo circular y de concha gruesa) y me pidió que le hiciera una para su hija que está embarazada. Qué te parece…¿ Verdad que pudiera ponerme a vender mis tejidos?…

— Claro María, esos trabajos manuales siempre tienen su mercado, hay mucha gente que le gustan esas cosas. Seguro que allí tendrías una posibilidad de abrirte camino con un negocio, y pudieras pensar además en vender los insumos para el tejido. Tú tienes buenas cualidades para las ventas… Atrévete…. Ella abre los ojos mientras me escucha…

En otra oportunidad me habla de sus cualidades para la cocina, de todo lo que ha aprendido con el maestro repostero de la panadería. Me ha comentado que ocasionalmente hace tortas y pasapalos que vende entre sus vecinos. Piensa que por allí también pudiera echar a andar algún negocio. Me dice que en la panadería ha conocido muchos proveedores que pudieran dejarle los productos en consignación por pocos días…
