Mutation

My story began a little more than three hundred years ago, I was living at that time on a Caribbean island and I rendered my services as a slave to the owner of a large sugar cane plantation.
Many people came to the main house from Europe, people of different nationalities; some were friends of my owner, and others were merchants who came with the intention of closing a deal.
One night a special character arrived, his boat was anchored a little far from the port, this was not strange since some people took advantage of the tranquility of our sea to leave their ships far from the coast, so they could keep their privacy safe from prying eyes.
My owner put me at the order of that man, he told him that I was there to serve him, that he should not hesitate to ask me for anything he needed. He was a polite and well-mannered gentleman...

The two men talked for a long time... At about two o'clock in the morning, the lights went out in the house. The visitor and my owner were still in the living room. I waited outside the enclosure attentive to any call.
The two men got up from their seats, I thought I would escort the visitor to his room. But my owner ordered me to go with him to the port. I took a hand lamp, a light coat, saddled my horse and began to ride with the man.
The night was cool and clear, a huge full moon obscured the light of the lantern. At first the man was silent, but after a while he said that from now on I would be his companion, that he had great plans for me. I never imagined that one day I would leave the hacienda where I was born. However, if I had known what my new life would be like, I would have preferred to continue as a slave...
A little before arriving at the port I began to feel weak, I could hardly hold on to the saddle of the horse, strange images flooded my mind and I think that at some point I collapsed.
When I awoke I was sailing in the sea, a slight pain spread up the side of my neck. The man was sitting next to me, he told me that everything would be all right.... For several days I remained inside the boat, stunned, as if drunk, occasionally images of the man stuck to my neck would come to me, it was as if I was inside a dream...
I lost track of time, and one night the man took me by the hand and we went up to the deck of the ship. He told me what had happened and explained everything about my new condition, about what I now had to do to stay alive...
The next day we disembarked on a small island in order to regain strength... We waited for the night to come and went to a small tavern, we made friends with two young men. While talking to one of them I felt I could enter his mind, I told him to bark like a dog and he obeyed, I told him to walk beside me and he obeyed. We went towards a cliff and I felt an irresistible need to bite him on the neck, I sucked his blood for a long time...At the end I pushed him towards the sea...I felt happy and full of vitality...I had begun my life as a vampire....
For hundreds of years I traveled all over the world, I became an educated, respectable, rich man...with a great thirst for adventure to break the boredom of immortality...

On one of our trips to the Atlantic we were hit by a storm, our ship did not resist the force of the winds and crashed against a rocky surface. It was close to dawn. My companion and I managed to reach the shore, desperately we ran looking for some shelter, we saw a cave nearby, I was able to enter before the first lights came out, but not him, his body crumbled into ashes at the first contact with sunlight ...
During the nights I went out in search of prey, but there was no human on the horizon. Desperate, I drank the blood of small animals, but that did not help me, I felt weaker and weaker...
One evening, at sunset, I could not move, I was tied to four stakes inside the cave. In front of me were four old women, they told me that they had observed me, that they had met several of my kind, they knew about the curse of the drinkers of human blood. They told me they could help me...
The old women came every afternoon and poured a strange concoction made with coffee into my mouth. They gradually increased the dosage. After two weeks I felt strong and recovered, and at that moment the old women released my moorings...
I have been living in this community for several years. But I have never felt the need to drink human blood. I'm still sensitive to sunlight, so my life is still nocturnal...
Sometimes I think that I am in my third slavery, first I was slave of my owner. Then, I became a vampire and became a slave to human blood. Now I depend on these old women to live. They will never reveal their secret to me, they will never tell me the formula of this mysterious coffee that keeps me alive. In my ignorance lies their security....
Thank you for your time.

Thank you so much my dear friend.
The old women made the vampire addicted to the secret concoction they prepared. He now became a slave to the old women instead of blood. The curse continues... Excellent story.☕

That will happen with those who are addicted to coffee, that when they drink something they think it is coffee, my wife, at least when she doesn't drink her morning coffee, spends the whole day with headaches and barely consumes it and it is like a great medicine, His headache immediately disappears, it seems like the vampire story that his coffee is blood. What a good comparative story you have told us estinado @irvinc
I'm glad you liked it. There was a time when I drank a lot of coffee and if I didn't make it I would get big headaches. Now I just have a cup in the middle of the afternoon. Thanks so much for stopping by and for the support dear @omarrojas . A big hug from Maracay.

Aww, I am amazed by your story. I am interested in the part where life goes from being a slave of the owner to being vampire slave of the blood, and then to life as a coffee addict. Great write up and I love the story so much my friend. Have a wonderful day and take care!
I'm glad you liked the story. The character didn't have much luck, maybe he would have liked not to be immortal, hahahaha. Thank you very much for stopping by and commenting, dear @pinkchic . A big hug from Maracay.
