What Does Decentralization Mean To Me? Initiative

The Blockchain is a technology that radically changes the way we have been processing information. Through a distributed consensus system, records can be created about any kind of events and they have a very important characteristic, they cannot be altered. Once the system of interconnected nodes has verified, validated and recorded the information, it cannot be removed or changed.

One of the main advantages that Blockchains have is that the information of the records and transactions can be done from user to user without the intervention of third parties. This in the case of money transfers has a great advantage since it substantially lowers the costs of transactions

This way of processing information is very convenient for businesses and especially for economic transactions, because it guarantees the transparency of the information handled by economic actors.

One concept of Blockcahin decentralization. In order for information to be recorded, it must be validated by a network of validators. The data is submitted to a verification process in which all the computers connected give a guarantee that they have the same data. This means that the transactions carried out enjoy great acceptance among the community of users.

Today, Steemit users have seen how this principle of decentralization can be undermined. The new owner of the chain, Mr Justin Sun, has tried to make a mockery of decentralisation, in a tricky way, in order to impose his power and do things his way.

In order to achieve his objectives, Mr. Sun violated the Witness system that is the basis of Democracy in Steemit. He bypassed the community's elected Witnesses and imposed phantom Witnesses. The reason for this is that Mr. Sun knows that in order to make great changes in the Blockchain, the consensus of the first 20 Witnesses is needed.

But the very decentralization of the Blockchain of Steem has enabled the community to restore the power of the former Witnesses. There is enough power distributed among the users to push the elected Witnesses.

Decentralization is a very important concept; it is a guarantee for communities that no arbitrary decisions can be made by any powerful person.

We live in new times, where people are more likely to participate in decision-making, where it is entirely possible for everyone's opinion to be heard and taken into consideration

The time when decisions were made in a dictatorial manner is over. We must now encourage consensus in order to reach agreements. That is why it is necessary to maintain decentralization.
