A Different Way of Making Art

Several days ago ended one of the most interesting artistic experiences that have taken place in the city of Caracas, it was the exhibition Meninas Caracas Gallery, which was carried out thanks to the creative ingenuity of the Venezuelan artist Antonio Azzato, who in turn was inspired by a masterpiece of the Spanish painter Diego Velázquez called the meninas.

Hace ya varios días finalizó una de las experiencias artísticas más interesantes que se han llevado a cabo dentro de la ciudad de Caracas, se trató de la exposición Meninas Caracas Gallery, la cual se llevó a cabo gracias al Ingenio creativo del artista plástico venezolano Antonio Azzato, quien a su vez se inspiró en una obra maestra del pintor español Diego Velázquez denominada las meninas.

But this time Azzato sought to represent in his work not a copy of what is already known, but a totally different proposal based on the three-dimensional, where each piece separately tells a different story and at the same time gives us an icon of Venezuelanness. Undoubtedly, each of the pieces made by the Venezuelan artist are a clear example of the cultural exchange between Venezuela and Spain, two nations that are brought closer through history, culture and their peoples.

Pero en esta oportunidad Azzato buscó representar en su obra no una copia de lo ya conocido, sin una propuesta totalmente diferente basada en lo tridimensional, en donde cada pieza por separado nos cuenta una historia diferente y al mismo tiempo nos regala un icono de la venezolanidad. Sin duda alguna, cada una de las piezas elaboradas por el artista venezolano son un claro ejemplo del intercambio cultural existente entre Venezuela y España, dos naciones que se ven acercadas a través de la historia, la cultura y sus pueblos.

Throughout the length and breadth of the smallest municipality of the Venezuelan capital we had the opportunity to discover 19 sculptures, which became a ray of light in the midst of a city so convulsed and for more than a month the surroundings of these pieces were the ideal meeting point for those who love art, are looking for an adventure or simply are moved by curiosity.

A lo largo y ancho del municipio más pequeño de la capital venezolana tuvimos la oportunidad de descubrir 19 esculturas, las cuales se convirtieron en un rayo de luz en medio de una ciudad tan convulsa y por más de un mes los alrededores de estas piezas fueron el punto de encuentro ideal para quienes aman el arte, buscan una aventura o Sencillamente son movidos por la curiosidad.

Iconic characters, exuberant landscapes and natural wealth were some of the themes chosen to decorate each menina, therefore, these pieces were very popularly accepted, since it was not a type of art that moves away from the realities of its viewers, but on the contrary, in each of them we could find a little piece of ourselves, which fills us with pride, happiness and exalts the love for our homeland.

Personajes icónicos, paisajes exuberantes y riquezas naturales fueron algunos de los temas elegidos para decorar a cada menina, por lo tanto, estas piezas contaron con mucha aceptación a nivel popular, ya que no era un tipo de arte que se aleja de las realidades de sus espectadores, sino que, por el contrario, en cada una de ellas podíamos encontrar un pedacito de nosotros mismos, el cual nos llena de orgullo, felicidad y enaltece el amor por nuestra patria.

I hope that this new way of making art continues to gain spaces within my country, since it is a different and at the same time super interesting proposal, which breaks with the monotony of everyday life and, therefore, encourages us to enter into an adventure that has no limits, but which is full of great moments, beautiful landscapes and excellent opportunities to create and promote art.

Espero que esta nueva forma de hacer arte siga ganando espacios dentro de mi país, ya que se trata de una propuesta diferente y al mismo tiempo superinteresante, la cual rompe con la monotonía del día a día y, por lo tanto, nos impulsa a adentrarnos en una aventura que no tiene límites, pero la cual está llena de grandes momentos, lindos paisajes y excelentes oportunidades para crear y promover el arte.
