A Walk Through the National Art Gallery

Caracas is a city where we can find art in every corner, I have described it on multiple occasions as a museum in the open sky, because in its squares, buildings, if boulevards we will always stumble upon some piece of incredible artistic value, where abstract and modern art undoubtedly take a step forward to become the favorite of a society that always seems to be facing the future, But beyond these artistic street expressions in the Venezuelan capital we can also find spaces dedicated to the exhibition of classic pieces and other styles, that is when we must place our gaze on the various museums that exist in the city, but specifically I come to tell a little about the National Art Gallery.

Un Paseo por la Galería de Arte Nacional

Caracas es una ciudad en donde podemos encontrar arte por todos los rincones, la he descrito en múltiples ocasiones como un museo a cielo abierto, pues en sus plazas, edificios, si bulevares siempre nos tropezaremos con alguna pieza de increíble valor artístico, en dónde el arte abstracto y moderno sin duda alguna dan un paso hacia adelante para convertirse en el favorito de una sociedad que siempre parece estar de cara al futuro, pero más allá de estas expresiones artísticas callejeras en la capital venezolana también podemos encontrar espacios dedicados a la exposición de piezas clásicas y con otros estilos, es allí cuando debemos colocar nuestra mirada sobre los diversos museos que existen en la ciudad, pero específicamente vengo a contar un poco sobre la Galería de arte Nacional.

Undoubtedly this is the most important space from the artistic point of view of the entire nation, in its rooms, behind its walls and under its ceilings we can find a truly legendary collection, where classic painters of great renown stand out, such as Tito Salas or Arturo Michelena, who with their perfect brushstrokes gave us works that demonstrate a historical reality and that at the same time are invaluable pieces, which are loaded with an enormous economic value and a great artistic value.

Sin duda alguna Este es el espacio más importante desde el punto de vista artístico de toda la nación, en sus salas, detrás de sus muros y bajo sus techos podemos encontrar una colección realmente legendaria, en donde sobresalen pintores clásicos de gran renombre, como Tito Salas o Arturo Michelena, su quienes con sus perfectas pinceladas nos regalaron obras que demuestran una realidad histórica y que al mismo tiempo constituyen piezas invaluables, las cuales están cargadas de un enorme valor económico y un gran valor artístico.

The Galería de Arte Nacional is located in a very central location within the city of Caracas, as it is just a few meters from the Bellas Artes station of Line 1 of the Caracas subway and at the same time has access from Avenida Bolivar and Avenida Mexico, both being two important arteries that connect the city from east to west. Its architecture is of brutalist style, therefore, its grandiose dimensions and concrete finishes alone constitute an interesting piece of art, but inside we find huge well-lit rooms, with comfortable seats and very wide spaces, which allow a perfect circulation and at the same time generate a sense of grandeur, which combined with large wooden doors and glass doors make this space a truly spectacular place.

La Galería de Arte Nacional se encuentra en una ubicación muy céntrica dentro de la ciudad de Caracas, ya que está a pocos metros de la estación Bellas Artes de la Línea 1 del metro de Caracas y al mismo tiempo cuenta con accesos desde la Avenida Bolívar y la Avenida México, siendo ambas dos importantes arterias viales que conectan a la ciudad de este a oeste. Su arquitectura es de estilo brutalista, por lo tanto, sus grandiosas dimensiones y acabados en concreto constituyen por sí solas una interesante pieza artística, pero en su interior nos encontramos enormes salas bien iluminadas, con cómodas butacas y espacios muy amplios, los cuales permiten una perfecta circulación y al mismo tiempo generan una sensación de grandiosidad, la cual aunada con grandes puertas de madera y contrapuertas de cristal hacen de este espacio un lugar realmente espectacular.

The difference of many other museums in the world of this one has spaces for the great national collections, but easily we can also find inside samples from new or popular artists, which historically had been excluded from this elite of the Fine Arts, but now in this century are visible and have the opportunity to show the world their work, which I must say that in most cases I find it very interesting and at the same time attractive, so I think this kind of policies should continue to be implemented and are a benefit that promotes culture and art.

La diferencia de muchos otros museos en el mundo de este cuenta con espacios para las grandes colecciones nacionales, pero fácilmente también podremos encontrar en su interior muestras provenientes de artistas nuevos o populares, los cuales históricamente habían sido excluidos de esta élite de las Bellas Artes, pero que ahora en este siglo son visibilizados y cuentan con la oportunidad de mostrarle al mundo su trabajo, del cual debo decir que en la mayoría de los casos me resulta muy interesante y al mismo tiempo atractivo, por lo que creo que este tipo de políticas debe seguirse aplicando y constituyen un beneficio que impulsa la cultura y el arte.

I always liked to enjoy all kinds of artistic pieces, but I think that the Venezuelan academicist style is the one that most attracts my attention, it is for this reason that when I am faced with paintings like Miranda in the Carraca my heart accelerates and feels an enormously great emotion, In my opinion, this is one of the most important samples of the artistic and cultural heritage of the Venezuelan people, but like this one, many historical paintings are found in this museum, which each one has different characteristics and diverse techniques, but in general leaves us with a sensation of absolute perfection.

Siempre me gustaba disfrutar de todo tipo de piezas artísticas, pero creo que el estilo academicista venezolano es el que más me llama la atención, es por esta razón que cuando me enfrento a cuadros como el de Miranda en la Carraca mi corazón se acelera y siente una emoción enormemente grande, ya que a mi parecer este es una de las muestras más importantes del patrimonio artístico y cultural del pueblo venezolano, pero como este muchos cuadros del tipo histórico son encontrados en este museo, los cuales cada uno cuenta con características distintas y técnicas diversas, pero en general nos deja una sensación de perfección absoluta.

Walking through these halls and rooms is a completely wonderful experience, most of these paintings seem more like photographs of the past, present and even the future, on these canvases we can discover oceans of feelings, many energies between crossed and endless stories that seem to be narrated as a whisper a few centimeters from our ears.

Recorrer estos pasillos y salas es una experiencia completamente maravillosa, la mayoría de estos cuadros parecen más bien fotografías del pasado, del presente y hasta del futuro, sobre esos lienzos podemos descubrir océanos de sentimientos, muchas energías entre cruzadas y un sinfín de historias que parecieran narradas en forma de susurro a pocos centímetros de nuestros oídos.

But it is also a space that opens its doors to other techniques that are read from the brushstrokes and canvases, here we can find sculptures, audiovisuals, crafts, jewelry and work done on wood and various other materials, therefore, this is how we can understand that in this imposing building hides one of the greatest treasures of the nation, is a space that protects part of our identity as a people and at the same time is in a constant work because each of these pieces remain intact for the enjoyment of future generations.

Pero también es un espacio que le abre sus puertas a otras técnicas que se lean de las pinceladas y los lienzos, aquí podemos encontrar esculturas, audiovisuales, artesanía, orfebrería y trabajo realizado sobre madera y diversos otros materiales, por lo tanto, es de esta forma como podemos comprender que en este imponente edificio se esconde uno de los mayores tesoros de la nación, es un espacio que resguarda parte de nuestra identidad como pueblo y que al mismo tiempo se encuentra en un trabajo constante porque cada una de estas piezas se mantenga intacta para el disfrute de las generaciones futuras.

The gallery is a space open to the public, a place with free access and with interesting services. It is a space where we can enjoy every moment of our visit and where we can live to the fullest the experience of interacting with art, It is also important to emphasize that despite being in the heart of the city and flanked by two of its main avenues, its spaces enjoy a great silence, a deep tranquility and a vibrant energy, but serene, here it seems that time stands still and that we enter a parallel world where around every corner we will find an adventure and a different universe.

La galería es un espacio abierto al público, un lugar de acceso gratuito y que cuenta con interesantes servicios, Se trata de un espacio en donde podemos disfrutar cada instante de nuestra visita y en donde podremos vivir al máximo la experiencia de interactuar con el arte, además es importante Resaltar que a pesar de encontrarse en pleno corazón de la ciudad y flanqueada por dos de sus principales avenidas sus espacios gozan de un gran silencio, una profunda tranquilidad y una energía vibrante, pero serena, aquí pareciera que el tiempo se detiene y que entramos en un Mundo paralelo en donde la vuelta de cada esquina nos encontraremos con una aventura y un universo diferente.

Classic art, abstract art, sculptures and popular expressions, all this makes up the most important collection of the nation and the most interesting of all is that it is a sample that does not remain static, as the people who are in charge of this museum are kept in a constant dynamism, which always presents new pieces, surprises us with new designs and colors, which makes each visit to this place is totally different from the previous one and this is a simply great feature, because it always keeps expectations high and one as a visitor remains attentive to discover new pieces, new artists and new techniques.

Arte clásico, arte abstracto, esculturas y expresiones populares todo esto conforma la colección más importante de la nación y lo más interesante de todos es que se trata de una muestra que no permanece estática, ya que las personas que están a cargo de este museo se mantienen en un constante dinamismo, el cual nos presenta siempre nuevas piezas, nos sorprende con nuevos diseños y colores, lo cual hace que cada visita a este lugar sea totalmente diferente al anterior y esta es una característica simplemente genial, porque mantiene siempre las expectativas altas y uno como visitante se mantiene atento a descubrir nuevas piezas, nuevos artistas y nuevas técnicas.

Visiting the National Art Gallery was once again an extraordinary experience, for more than 3 hours I was touring two floors full of art, where I discovered many new things and where I was surprised to see the changes that this place has had over time, therefore, I hope that this dynamic spirit is maintained and that every time I have the opportunity to step on this wonderful space I can have a different story to tell you all, from here I want to thank you for this journey through art and the Venezuelan national identity, from this little corner of the world I send you a big hug and I invite you to know Caracas, one of the cities that hides one of the most diverse and interesting art collections in the world.

Visitar la Galería de Arte Nacional fue una vez más una experiencia extraordinaria, por durante más de 3 horas estuve recorriendo dos pisos repletos de arte, en donde descubrí muchas cosas nuevas y en donde me sorprendí al ver los cambios que este lugar ha tenido a través del tiempo, por lo tanto, espero que este espíritu dinámico se mantenga y que cada vez que tenga la oportunidad de pisar este maravilloso espacio pueda tener una historia diferente que contarle a todos ustedes, desde acá les quiero dar las gracias por este viaje a través del arte y la identidad nacional venezolana, desde este rinconcito del mundo les envío un gran abrazo y los invito a conocer Caracas, una de las ciudades que esconde una de las colecciones artísticas más diversas e interesantes del mundo.
