The Central Library of the UCV
The university city of Caracas is a symbol of academic excellence, architectural perfection and artistic genius, since it is a truly magical environment, which is capable of transporting us through a parallel world, where each structure, each corridor and each square give us a totally different vision of life and a beauty that can be considered extraordinary. This architectural complex is undoubtedly the masterpiece of Venezuelan architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva, who in his imagination envisioned an attractive, comfortable and fully functional space, where the magic of education is mixed with the vocation of teaching and curiosity for research, which generates a magnificent result, since it is the creation of pure knowledge that is put at the service of the needs of an entire nation.

La ciudad universitaria de Caracas es símbolo de la excelencia académica, la perfección arquitectónica y la genialidad artística, ya que se trata de un entorno realmente mágico, el cual es capaz de transportarnos a través de un mundo paralelo, en donde cada estructura, cada pasillo y cada plaza nos regalan una visión totalmente diferente de la vida y una belleza que se puede considerar como extraordinaria. El este conjunto arquitectónico es sin duda alguna la obra maestra del arquitecto venezolano Carlos Raúl Villanueva, quien en su imaginario visualizó un espacio atractivo, cómodo Y plenamente funcional, en donde la magia de la educación se mezclara con la vocación de la docencia y la curiosidad por la investigación, lo cual genera un resultado magnífico, pues se trata de la creación de conocimiento puro que se pone al servicio de las necesidades de una nación completa.
Within a little more than 164 hectares there are more than 40 buildings designed by Villanueva, which contain unique characteristics, distinctive colors and individual personality, thus generating an urban complex where there is no monotony, repetition or simplicity, unique qualities within a university campus, which transcends the aesthetic that over the years has become a deep feeling that welcomes students with open arms, generating in them a great sense of belonging and a deep love for their schools, faculties or institutes.
Dentro de un poco más de 164 hectáreas se encuentran más de 40 edificios diseñados por Villanueva, los cuales contienen características únicas, colores distintivos y personalidad individual, generando esta forma un conjunto urbanístico en donde no existe la monotonía, las repeticiones ni la simplicidad, cualidades únicas dentro de un campus universitario, lo cual trasciende a lo estético que a lo largo de los años se ha convertido en un profundo sentimiento que acoge a los estudiantes con los brazos abiertos, generando en ellos un gran sentido de pertenencia y un profundo amor por sus escuelas, facultades o institutos.
But in this walk through architecture, knowledge and the arts we came across what can be considered the most iconic building of the entire University City of Caracas, it is nothing more and nothing less than a geometric block of 12 floors high, adorned with beautiful red mosaiquillos and built on a clear and striking space, This is the headquarters of the Central Library of the Central University of Venezuela, a space characterized by its marble floors, large balconies and large rooms from where one can immerse oneself in the wonderful world of letters and knowledge.
Pero en este caminar por la arquitectura, el conocimiento y las artes nos encontramos con el que se puede considerar como el edificio más icónico de toda la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, se trata de nada más y nada menos que de un bloque geométrico de 12 pisos de altura, adornado con preciosos mosaiquillos de color rojo y construido sobre un espacio despejado y llamativo, se trata de la sede de la Biblioteca Central de la Universidad Central de Venezuela, un espacio que se caracteriza por sus pisos de mármol, amplios balcones y grandes salas desde donde con tranquilidad y detenimiento uno se puede hundir en el maravilloso mundo de las letras y el conocimiento.
It is important to remember that this entire architectural complex was built in times of the right-wing dictatorship of General Marcos Pérez Jiménez, therefore, it was a time when communist or socialist tendencies were not well received, so venturing to build a building of such magnitude with such a distinctive red color surrounding its four flanks was a truly bold decision, which did not escape criticism, it was not to everyone's liking, but it really had to be respected for its imposing character and its degree of perfection. Characteristics that transcended over the years and became one of the most important icons of the entire University City of Caracas, it is in this way that many people around the world space just by looking at a postcard of the library building.
Es importante recordar que todo este conjunto arquitectónico fue construido en tiempos de la dictadura derechista del General Marcos Pérez Jiménez, por lo tanto, se trataba de una época en donde las tendencias comunistas o socialistas no eran bien recibidas, Por lo cual aventurarse a construir un edificio de tal magnitud con tan distintivo color rojo rodeando sus cuatro flancos fue una decisión verdaderamente audaz, la cual no escapó de las críticas, no fue del agrado de todos, pero realmente tuvo que ser respetada por su carácter imponente y su grado de perfección. Características que trascendieron a lo largo de los años y se convirtieron en uno de los iconos más importantes de toda la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, es de esta forma como muchas personas alrededor del mundo espacio solo al mirar una postal del edificio de la biblioteca.
In my student days this was one of my favorite places to have a good time and now as a graduate having the opportunity to revisit these facilities, I am filled with pride for having been able to enjoy such an excellent place, because it is a really imposing building in every way, but despite this indisputable quality inside it does not live an overwhelming atmosphere, on the contrary, we enjoy a cozy place where you can breathe good energy and appreciate an exquisite art.
En mis tiempos de estudiante este era uno de mis lugares favoritos para pasar un buen rato y ahora como egresado al tener la oportunidad de volver a recorrer estas instalaciones, me lleno de orgullo por haber podido disfrutar de un lugar tan excelso, pues se trata de un edificio realmente imponente en todos los sentidos, pero a pesar de esta indiscutible cualidad dentro de él no se vive un ambiente apabullante, por el contrario, disfrutamos de un lugar acogedor en donde se respiran buenas energías y se aprecia de un arte exquisito.
One of the most striking features of the interior of the Central Library is the impressive stained glass window of the famous French artist Fernand Léger, who in a concrete and glass structure made in 1954 managed to generate an artistic piece of epic characteristics, which with its dimensions of 630 by 1237 cm manages to bathe the entire main hall with a deep combination of lights that fill with life and color to a space that if it were not for the stained glass would be cold and empty. But one of the curiosities of this artistic piece is that Léger would assemble this great work in his workshop in Paris, only with the references given to perfection by the architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva, who would guide him from the structural point of view on the conditions and characteristics of the space where the stained glass would be placed, This is how in a perfect combination each box containing each part of this masterpiece arrived in Caracas and was installed perfectly, thus becoming one of the most important pieces of the French artist, which day by day fills with pride all Venezuelans, for reasons of life a visit of Léger to Caracas to see his work completed was not possible, but his legacy remains intact in one of the most important and sacred precincts of the capital city.
Una de las características más llamativas del interior de la Biblioteca Central es el impresionante vitral del Afamado Artista francés Fernand Léger, quién en una estructura de concreto y vidrio elaborada en el año 1954 logró generar una pieza artística de características épicas, qué con sus dimensiones de 630 por 1237 cm logra bañar a todo el hall principal con una profunda combinación de luces que llenan de vida y color a un espacio que de no ser por el vitral sería frío y vacío. Pero una de las curiosidades de esta pieza artística es que Léger ensamblaría toda esta gran obra en su taller en París, solo con las referencias dadas a la perfección por el arquitecto Carlos Raúl Villanueva, quién lo orientaría desde el punto de vista estructural sobre las condiciones y características del espacio en donde sería colocado el vitral, es así como en una combinación perfecta cada caja contentiva de cada parte de esta Obra maestra llegó a Caracas y fue instalada de forma perfecta, convirtiéndose de esta manera una de las piezas más importantes del artista francés, la cual día a día llena de orgullo a todos los venezolanos, por cuestiones de la vida una visita de Léger a Caracas para ver su obra culminada no fue posible, pero su legado permanece intacto en uno de los recintos más importantes y sagrados de la ciudad capital.
Undoubtedly this is one of the most complex buildings of the entire University City, the area comprising the library is divided into several rooms, which are dedicated to the different sciences that exist in the world, the tower also has administrative spaces, a large viewpoint and documents of great importance are stored, therefore, we can determine that this is the most important place of all this set and therefore must be protected and safeguarded so that the knowledge that is here can be transmitted from generation to generation.
Sin duda alguna este es uno de los edificios más complejos de toda la Ciudad Universitaria, el área que comprende la biblioteca está dividida en varias salas, las cuales se dedican a las diferentes ciencias que existen en el mundo, además la torre cuenta con espacios administrativos, un gran mirador y te resguardan documentos de gran importancia, por lo tanto, podemos determinar que se trata del lugar más importante de todo este conjunto y por lo cual debe ser protegido y resguardado para que el conocimiento que aquí se encuentra pueda ser transmitido de generación en generación.
Libraries have always attracted my attention, because they are spaces where we can find many things, multiple treasures lost in time, which enrich our minds and fill our spirit with good and valuable information, which helps us to contribute our grain of sand in the construction of a much more developed, friendly and humane world.
Las bibliotecas siempre me han llamado muchísimo la atención, porque son espacios en donde podemos encontrar muchísimas cosas múltiples tesoros perdidos en el tiempo, los cuales enriquecen nuestra mente y llenan nuestro espíritu de información buena y valiosa, la cual nos ayuda a aportar nuestro granito de arena en la construcción de un mundo mucho Más desarrollado, amigable y humano.
Returning to the Central Library was one of the best decisions I could have made, since by visiting these spaces I could remember those extraordinary moments of my student days, at the same time I could feel happy to find a perfectly maintained place and finally I could regain the necessary energy to continue facing with courage and determination the crossroads of a life that every moment presents us with a different challenge. So with all my heart I invite you in the beautiful city of Caracas do not hesitate for a second to know the greatness and genius that hides the University City of Caracas, but especially come and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Los Balcones de la Biblioteca Central, as well as its extraordinary works of art and its impeccable architecture that mixes genius with perfection.
Regresar a la Biblioteca Central fue una de las mejores decisiones que pude realizar, ya que al recorrer estos espacios pude recordar aquellos extraordinarios momentos de mi época de estudiante, al mismo tiempo pude sentirme feliz por encontrar un lugar perfectamente mantenido y finalmente pude recobrar las energías necesarias para seguir enfrentando con valentía y determinación las encrucijadas de una vida que a cada instante nos presenta un reto diferente. Así que con el corazón te invito en la bella ciudad de Caracas no dudes ni un segundo en conocer la grandeza y la genialidad que esconde la Ciudad Universitaria de Caracas, pero especialmente Ven y disfruta de los lindos paisajes de Los Balcones de la Biblioteca Central, así como de sus extraordinarias obras de arte y de su impecable arquitectura que mezcla la genialidad con la perfección.
