A Cup of Affogato and Educational Cultural Hagemoni

Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am very happy, finally given the time and opportunity to return to participate and contribute to the Cinnamons Cup Coffee Community to share my stories and experiences about coffee, coffee shops or other interesting stories. Because I agree with one opinion, there are always interesting stories from a cup of coffee.

Anyway, how's the weather in the city where you live? in Medan City, Indonesia is having hot days and the sun is shining very brightly at this time. It's hard not to complain when the weather is hot, because as humans the skin's resistance to heat is sometimes more painful than cold. If the weather is cold, we only need to use a coat or layered clothes. However, when the weather is hot and sunny like this, if we are naked without clothes it doesn't change our skin which is still burning because of the hot sun.

Hot weather, of course, does not prevent our activities from enjoying a cup of coffee. There is a coffee menu that is perfect to enjoy in hot weather like this. Some time ago, when the sun was shining and hot. I decide go to one of the local coffee shops in my city, Fana Coffee Shop. I also have an appointment to discuss with my friend who also works at a campus near the coffee shop.

Fana Coffee Shop is one of the popular local coffee shops in my city. The location of this coffee shop is right in front of the University of North Sumatra, the largest state campus in North Sumatra Province. So, many students from that campus also spend time in this cozy coffee shop.

At Fana Coffee Shop, a wide selection of coffee and non-coffee menus is available at affordable prices. Of course, this coffee shop is in front of the campus and we know students don't have much money. After looking at the menu, I saw one menu that is suitable to be enjoyed in the afternoon before the afternoon. I ordered one cup of Affogato to accompany my afternoon at the coffee shop.

My coffee order came quite fast, all coffee brewing processes use an espresso machine and also seem to use coffee beans. Affogato is one of the signature coffees from Italy such as espresso, cappuccino or macchiato. Affogato is a combination of espresso and ice cream. Some people say that Affogato is a dessert and others say that Affogato is a drink. However, it's up to us not to argue about that.

At Fana Coffee Shop, the affogato is served separately and the customer pours the espresso over the vanilla ice cream himself. I tried to pour it and also took an aesthetic photo when pouring the espresso into this ice cream. As a result, my espresso was a little overgrown and scattered on my table.

How does it feel ? cold and fresh of course. The combination of espresso which has a bitter and strong taste mixed with sweet and cold vanilla ice cream makes this drink very enjoyable when consumed during this hot day.

While enjoying this affogato, my attention was distracted by the view from the glass wall of this coffee shop. From this coffee shop, we can see the hustle and bustle of human activity, from vehicles such as cars and motorbikes passing by, as well as students walking and walking as if going to campus or returning from class activities.

Seeing the students around this university, raised an old question in my head. About, how important is it for someone to continue studying at university and do they choose their own major or field of study to study at that university?

I don't know about study traditions or schools in other countries. However, in Indonesia the school status of a person is very influential in his social interactions. In fact, I once thought that parents in Indonesia send their children to the best schools or universities not so that their children are smart and successful but so that these parents are not ridiculed or can boast of themselves.

Because of this, many students and students are trying to get into prestigious universities without knowing what their future will be. I'm even sure, 8 out of 10 students who study at this university actually only carry out formal learning activities without any ambition. Yup, the cultural hegemony of education like this makes the quality of university graduates questionable.

The hard question is not for anyone else, but for myself. I'm also someone who has to go to university regardless of what major he takes. I went to college at the animal husbandry faculty with absolutely no interest in learning about animal husbandry and its industry. After graduating, I worked for the biggest livestock company in my country and now, I prefer to become a hydroponic farmer and start an urban farming shop business in my city. So, what is the importance of college?
