Who does not know boba drink today? This drink, which was originally popular in Taiwan, has grown very rapidly and is loved by many people around the world, including in Indonesia. For your information, boba are balls made from tapioca flour cooked with palm sugar. The taste of this boba is sweet with a chewy texture. Meanwhile, Boba drink is a drink that uses boba as a topping. Some popular signature drinks such as boba milk tea, boba tea, boba coffee etc.

Nowadays, it is very easy to find boba drinks in Indonesia. Various local and international brands are already present here. One that stole the attention was Kokumi, a boba drink brand from Indonesia that stole the attention of boba drink lovers. Some time ago, I had the opportunity to come to the Kokumi outlet and try several variants of boba there.

Kokumi

I visited the Kokumi outlet which is located at Sun Plaza Medan, precisely on the 4th floor and opposite the Hokben Outlet. Kokumi outlets are a little different from other boba outlets, usually boba outlets only provide drinks for take away and do not provide seating. Kokumi tries to look different by providing tables and chairs for visitors who want to sit back and enjoy the boba.

The marketing strategy is very smart in my opinion. If we think about it, culturally Indonesian people come to the Mall to hangout, shop or eat and drink. We are not used to walking around holding a drink, generally preferring to drink while sitting at tables and chairs. The design of the selected tables and chairs is also with a minimalist design with colors that spoil our eyes.

One thing I like about Kokumi is the choice of Unicorn character as the product logo. The unicorn is designed very cutely like an anime character. The choice of Unicorn may be a prayer for Kokumi's success in the future. Oh yes, I also received information about Kokumi's business strategy which is quite unique in today's era. Kokumi does not rely on funding from third parties but is purely done by the owner himself. Because of this, Kokumi's development is slower than other boba brands.

Kokumi has many variants of the menu that we can choose from. Kokumi's signature boba menu such as Okinawa Brown Sugar Boba Tea, Unicorn Drink, etc. In addition, there is also a Caramel Latte with Boba menu which is also a favorite menu from Kokumi. I ordered the coffee menu to take home. I'm also curious, what is the taste of milk coffee with boba?

About Taste

Mixing coffee milk and boba is a new thing for me. I think this idea is quite unique, because it combines two things that are in demand by the younger generation today. I can't wait to try it either. Before drinking, this drink must be stirred first to make all the ingredients mixed evenly.

This Caramel Latte is made from espresso, fresh property, and caramel syrup. Supposedly, this drink has a very sweet taste, I imagine when added with boba it will become a very sweet drink, because the manufacture of boba uses palm sugar to get the taste.

After I tried it, it tasted really good. The sweetness is just right, not too much for one sweet drink. The boba is smaller than boba from other brands. I can still taste the bitter taste of the coffee which makes this drink so delicious. In addition, the boba is also chewy and delicious and the taste is perfect for this coffee.

The sweet taste, chewy boba texture, and creamy milk are the main attraction of this drink. I think that the choice of coffee and boba can be a new alternative drink for young people.

That's it, everyone's taste is certainly different and the standard of taste is also different. There's no harm in trying other variants of Kokumi.. hehe.

In Canada they call it bubble tea. I'm not sure why but I'm guessing that everyone mispronounced boba so many times that they just decided to change the name to something more recognizable haha 😄

thanks for the advice, looks like I'm too stuck with local terms in my country. I forgot if boba was bubble tea or bubble milk. Maybe I'm too excited to write this. hahaha..

Hello @isdarmady
I've tried Boba/Bubble tea while living in the Philippines, but I found the balls annoying to drink from with a big straw.
The outlet looks nice and airy though.

Yeah, there were some good posts, heh-6.jpg

Bubble tea or bubble drink is a popular drink in Southeast Asia over the last few years.
those big balls that make every drink different. I felt the sensation when the boba entered my throat.

These kinds of shops has started popping up in Norway recently. They're great. I rarely buy coffee at coffee shops but I'll definitely be having more of these.
