Cleaning My Hydroponic Instalation and Development of Some Vegetables in My Hydroponic Garden – Hydroponic Journal #7

Hello everyone and Hive Garden Community, how are you all? I hope we are all in good condition and healthy always going through all the routines. I also pray for all those who farm and care for their plants to be given maximum results, and achieve what you dream of. Back again on Monday, it's time for me to share a story about my hydroponic journal, which is a post related to my work as a hydroponic vegetable farmer and also a hydroponic consultant.

Before I want to explain something, I have a hydroponic garden at the location of my parents' house. I used my childhood yard to grow vegetables hydroponically as many as 2000 planting holes as you often see every Monday. In addition, I also made a hydroponic installation with 100 planting holes, in my private house. Okay, let's get started.

Mint Leaves

I made a hydroponic installation in my private home with the aim of adding ornaments and decorations to the yard. Of course, a hydroponic installation that produces lots of vegetables is more useful than the home page being left blank. Initially, I planted mint leaves on top and catnip on the bottom, but over the past few months I've had a poor harvest and haven't done any rejuvenation and cleaning of the hydroponic installation.

First, I cleaned the peppermint plant that had spread everywhere, I immediately did the pruning and removed some branches that were too long. The plan is that I will keep some of the plants and some of the holes I will plant new seeds. In addition, I also cleaned the contents of the pipe which turned out to be full of peppermint roots.

Mint is a type of plant that is very easy to grow and grows very quickly. If we are not diligent in taking care and regularly removing the roots, the mint leaves will continue to grow and the roots of the plant will hinder the circulation of water.

You can see the photo above, how the roots of the peppermint plant are very numerous. In addition to inhibiting water circulation, the composition of too many roots like this also makes water consumption in hydroponic installations very high. Mint growth is also uncontrolled, and sometimes this plant can grow in hydroponic pipe installations, blending with the roots.

After finishing cleaning at the hydroponic installation, I immediately picked the remaining mint leaves. Usually, I sell mint leaves that are fresh, picked when there is an order. However, lately I also sell dried mint leaves. so I don't want when cleaning and tidying up this hydroponic installation, mint leaves are wasted even though they can still be used and have economic value.

Catnip

The bottom of the Hydroponic Installation in my private house, is the catnip plant. Catnip is a type of plant that is similar to mint leaves but has great benefits for cats. I am currently developing this plant, because the demand for dry catnip is increasing along with the awareness of cat lovers about the happiness of their cats.

I harvest this catnip, I will dry it and later I will pack it for sale in various marketplaces. There was a funny moment when I was cleaning catnip and collecting it on the floor. My cat, whose name is kepin, was playing near a pile of catnip and immediately got high and drunk.

My hydroponic installation finally looks clean, there are only a few mint leaves at the top. I am planning to do a nursery of several types of plants to fill my hydroponic installation this week.

After cleand the hydroponic

Next, we go to my hydroponic garden which is located at my parents house (my childhood home). The distance between my house and my parents is about 30 minutes by motorbike, I also run my business at home. Let me invite you to see the progress of my vegetables that I grow.

Romaine Lettuce
These are my favorite vegetables to plant this November. I was very surprised that the shape of the vegetables was very beautiful, and seemed suitable for ornamental plants (just kidding). This form of romaine lettuce is green, with broad leaves. I try to eat these vegetables using satay, and they are perfect for salads or Korean grills.

Unfortunately, I only planted 60 planting holes of romaine lettuce, because I was just trying to test the market, whether this vegetable has a lot of interest. The plan is, if many people are interested, I want to grow these vegetables in my hydroponic garden.

Samhong King

I made a big profit this week thanks to this vegetable. The price of this vegetable has increased to IDR 30 K/kg. Last week, I sold 10 kilograms of these vegetables on Tokopedia and also customers who came directly to my house.

Currently, only a few holes for samhong vegetables are left in my hydroponic garden. Next week, I will harvest all these vegetables and I have prepared the samhong seeds for transplanting.

Kangkong

I have done a thorough harvest for the kangkong I planted. I have also prepared planting media for replanting kangkong this month. Kangkong is a profitable plant to develop, because it has a lot of demand, good prices and a shorter harvest life compared to other vegetables.

Pakchoy or Bokchoi

This vegetable is 18 days after sowing, this time I used a different seed than usual. Usually I use pakchoy from PT. East West Seed, but this time I used bokchoi seeds from Fontana Crop. The development of this vegetable is a little strange but according to my friend, it will turn out like the pakchoy that I usually grow.

Bitter Mustard (morakot)

The change in the color of the vegetables to a little yellow makes me dizzy looking for what causes it. Fortunately bitter mustard is not sold to consumers or buyers but is directly consumed by my own family. According to the literature that I read, sudden changes in the color of vegetables are usually caused by the pH quality of the water used.

Replanting Preparation

Last week, I seeded several types of vegetables such as samhong, pakchoi, lettuce, caisim, and bitter gourd. All these seeds can only be transferred to the planting medium when they have four leaves.

Okay, this is my hydroponic journal #7, next week I will share how to play vegetable seeds for hydroponic media, because there are some friends who are interested.

I like the setup of the tubes you used for your hydroponics. I hope I can start my hydroponics soon.
