Hello everyone and all members of Hive Garden Community, how are you friends today? I hope and pray for all of us to always be given health, patience, and also happiness in living this life. As usual, this time I want to participate again in this community to share stories about my gardening activities in my hydroponic garden.

Before that, I want to share some reasons why we should take the time to garden. Consciously or not, gardening has many benefits for us. As long as I do this activity, I feel very happy and excited. I believe no single job is fun, but when you're tired of doing something that makes you happy it's great. Besides being good for our mental health, gardening is also good for our bodies, especially if we rarely exercise. A little sweat and the morning sun will make the body more refreshed than just sleeping at home.

This week, I did a lot of work in my hydroponic garden. I sowed a lot of vegetable seeds to replace the vegetables I had harvested, I cleaned the hydroponic installation from dirt and moss, I also transferred the seeds to the hydroponic installation that I have.

Hydroponic Lettuce

Let's start with lettuce, in last week's journal I forgot to tell about the lettuce in my hydroponic garden. I have about 300 pots of lettuce in my hydroponic garden in about 25 days after sowing. I grow lettuce in two places, first on the balcony of the second floor of the house and in my yard.

All the lettuce that I grow thrives and is well cared for. I use rapids lettuce seeds which are popularly grown in Indonesia. This type of lettuce has advantages such as good growth power, resistance to hot weather, easy maintenance and can be planted in the lowlands, we need to remember lettuce grows better in cool areas such as mountains or valleys. Lettuce rapids has a unique feature, the stem of this vegetable is smaller than the others. This lettuce has broad leaves with small stems. If you look at it, like a green flower that is blooming.

I also have lettuce with planting age about 14 days after sowing. These lettuces also grow well and optimally, I use hydroponic liquid fertilizer with a concentration of about 600-700 ppm at the beginning of this planting week. The concentration is in accordance with the standards or requirements for growing lettuce which ranges between 600-800 ppm. The use of the right concentration of fertilizer is very important in a hydroponic growing system, because every plant or vegetable needs nutrients to grow and develop. We will see the development of the lettuce in the next week and always control it well.

Hydroponic Kangkong

IMG_20220718_143522.jpg

Kangkong, kangkong, and kangkong again. As long as I am gardening in a hydroponic system, this vegetable has been my favorite to grow. Everything is in this vegetable, easy to grow, easy to grow, easy to care for and easy to sell the produce. Maybe, there's only one thing I don't like about this vegetable, namely the selling price is too low. However, it is still reasonable considering the simple planting system.

Kangkong is a vegetable that requires a lot of water to grow and develop. In my hydroponic garden, I have kale which is about 10 days old after sowing. You can see in the next week, how this kangkong will turn out to be bigger. I used liquid fertilizer with a concentration of 1000-1200 ppm in this planting period.

There are several opinions and sources regarding the need for ppm concentrations for kangkong. Some hydroponic experts say a concentration of 600 ppm can be used for kangkong but some agricultural experts say that the ppm concentration for kangkong ranges from 1000 ppm. However, I use a fertilizer solution with a concentration of 1000-1100 ppm so far. These are the kangkong seeds that I am sowing. Seedling kale is very fast, but requires special attention and technique. Usually, I soak all the kangkong seeds that I will plant, that's to see the kangkong seeds that sprout and are ready to be planted.

Hydroponic Vertical

I have vegetables grown in two different hydroponic installations but show different developments. The bitter mustard that I planted in sytroam media grew better than the one I planted in wall hydroponics. I use the same seeds, the same concentration of fertilizer and also the same water. The vegetables that I grow in Styroam grow better because they get enough sunlight and more than the vegetables in the hydroponic wall.

Pakchoy Leftovers in My Hydroponic Installation

I have harvested almost all of my pakchoy, but there are still a few smaller pakchoys that I leave and take care of, so that these pakchoy grow better and can also be harvested in the future. It seems, I will not sell the rest of these vegetables, maybe I will consume all of them myself with my family.

Mint leaves

My two hydroponic pvc installations are still planted with mint leaves. This week, I'm not harvesting mint leaves but more focused on taking care of the remaining plants. I have over-harvested these mint leaves and damaged some pots of mint leaves. Hopefully next week the mint leaves will grow better.

Okay, this is my garden journal this time. hopefully friends get new information and new inspiration to live the day.

Impressive set-up. Hi, can I ask what the concoction of your nutrient solution was? I also plan to have some kangkong hydrophobic style for rabbits, hehe.

thank you for stopping by @eunoia101
That's a very interesting idea, growing your own vegetables for your pet rabbit is better than buying them every day. After all, it's more economical and nutritious, right?

I bought hydroponic nutrition from a farm shop, nor do I know much about its basic composition. Hehehe

Thanks @isdarmady for this very inspiring article ! I already read some of you, and each time, I want to know more about those technics... Always thought about trying an aquaponics system, but for that, I'll have to leave the town (that anyway the plan ^^)

I hope you're doing well, I am eager to discover your future progress and updates on HiveGarden :) Be well 🌿

I am very happy when I hear that friends get information and inspiration when they see my posts. Of course, that's what made me even more passionate about writing about hydroponics. I think, if you have the time and opportunity should try to make aquaponics. It's very profitable and fun.

you’re most welcome :) I completely get it as it’s such a pleasure to share some of your passion and interest...!

As soon as we’ll leave the town, I will launch an aquaponics project, I super impatient to do that :)

I hope you’re doing well 🤞🏼

You have an amazing hydro setup, it makes mine look tiny! I'm looking with envy at your KangKong. Ours dies off here every Winter, even in a greenhouse, so we have to wait until mid Spring to be able to plant any.
