Design and Architecture of Fred Brew Coffee House

IMG_7880.jpeg

Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. This time, I'm back to participate in the Architecture+Design Community by sharing interesting content about design and architecture from various places I've visited.

One of the topics that I often discuss in this community is coffee, restaurants or cafes that have interesting architecture and designs to discuss. I feel that the food and beverage business always has that interesting story, because the business is also very dependent on the choice of architectural design and also the interior design of the business.

Selection of interesting designs and concepts will make visitors come to the coffee shop or café. Not infrequently, we find several cafes that have delicious and inexpensive food and drink menus, but are not visited by many people because they do not have an attractive design to look at. Because of that, this time I will take you to see the design and architecture of one of the local coffee shops in my city which is very interesting to discuss.

Fred Brew Coffee House

IMG_7881.jpeg
This time, I will invite you to see Fred Brew Coffee House, one of the coffee shops that is currently hits and is being discussed on social media by Medan City residents and is also a topic of conversation among coffee lovers in Medan City. This coffee shop is located at Dazam Raya Street no. 53 Medan Petisah District – Medan City. For information, we often refer to Dazam Raya Street as the coffee shop street because around this street, we will find many coffee shops with various concepts lined up. I once discussed about Miel Coffee, one of the coffee shops in this area.

The Dazam Raya Street area was originally a shopping area with a dominance of three-four-storey shophouses. Just like the others, Fred Brew Coffee House also uses the foundation of a three-story shop building. However, when I saw the building of this coffee shop, I could hardly believe that Fred Brew Coffee House was in the shop building. This coffee shop, successfully conjure up a monotonous building structure to be very good.

The front of this coffee shop uses thick and transparent glass doors and windows. The glass doors and windows are also very helpful in providing natural light from the sun for the two coffee buildings. In addition, the use of glass on the front also provides a wider visual for visitors who come to this place.

IMG_7882.jpeg

In addition, at the front there is a hanging table and bar stools for visitors who want to sit outside and smoke. Fred Brew Coffee House does not provide a smoking area inside the building, so this is a smoking area and also a place to wait for food delivery couriers. The decoration of the front is also very attractive. White walls, marble tile floors with various plant pots make the interior look very beautiful.

Ground Floor Fred Brew Coffee House

When I enter the inside of this coffee shop, we will feel a very different atmosphere. All the colors, interiors and decorations used are pleasing to our eyes. In simple terms, I say Fred Brew Coffee House is a cozy place to drink coffee and chat.

For fans of interior design, I think Fred Brew Coffee House can be an attraction to discuss. When we opened the door, the first thing we would see was the coffee bar and rough desks that were at the front of the ground floor. The Coffee Bar is not too big, but it is laid out in a very simple and beautiful way. Fred Brew Coffee House uses white in almost all parts of the building. From the tiled floors and also the walls used, I always like to come to buildings that use all-white interiors. It looks so clean and simple.

IMG_7912.jpeg
IMG_7911.jpeg

Fred Brew Coffee House really looks to make the most of this tight space. In the arrangement of chairs, we will see a row of couple chairs facing the wall. These couple chairs and tables are made for visitors who come alone or in pairs. The position of the chairs is made to face each other with a small table, besides being able to save space, this position can also make the couple who is sitting feel more intimate. There are two types of seats used. On the front, close to the bar counter. Fred Brew Coffee House uses seating, long wooden benches with the addition of a very aesthetic hanging table.

Behind, Fred Brew Coffee House uses different furniture and concepts. Two chairs are still arranged facing each other with a small table in the middle. However, Fred Brew Coffee House uses minimalist wooden furniture, which we often find at IKEA. I like the couple furniture used, very minimalist and fits the concept of this coffee shop. In essence, I like the way coffee shops arrange furniture so that the room looks wider.

IMG_7918.jpeg
Apart from couple chairs and tables, on the ground floor there are also communal chairs and tables for 4-6 people. Fred Brew Coffee House uses furniture made of wood for this place. When I arrived, two tables with a capacity of 6 people had already been reserved by other visitors.

IMG_7927.jpeg

Another interesting part that concerns me, is the use of indoor plants as additional decorations from Fred Brew Coffee House. When we enter this coffee shop, we will find many pots of green plants displayed in the corners of this coffee shop, especially under the stairs. These plants make the Fred Brew Coffee House look more beautiful and beautiful, besides that they are also very instagramable photo spots for visitors.

Second Floor Fred Brew Coffee House

IMG_7936.jpeg
IMG_7976.jpeg

Next, I invite you to see the second floor of this coffee shop. Fred Brew Coffee House uses a luxurious and beautiful staircase. The stairs are circular with wooden designs and motifs. It's been a long time since I saw a café or coffee shop that thought of a staircase design as beautiful and artistic as this. I've been to and from many places and coffee shops that have buildings with beautiful designs and interiors but don't add anything to the stairs.

Just like the ground floor, Fred Brew Coffee House still uses white dominance for the second floor. We can see the white painted walls and also the white tile floors used. There was one thing that caught my attention when on the second floor, namely a transparent glass window that let sunlight enter this room. Because of that, the room on the second floor looks much brighter than the one on the ground floor.

IMG_7944.jpeg
IMG_7949.jpeg

Fred Brew Coffee House made the second floor a place for communal or group visitors. On the second floor, furniture with tables and chairs with a capacity of 4-6 people dominates this room. The furniture design is also unique and not monotonous. Like, a high chair with a round wooden table or a long bench after a circle with a round wooden table.

IMG_7959.jpeg

IMG_7967.jpeg

Couple chairs for two people are also available here, but the furniture used is different from the ground floor. On the second floor, Fred Brew Coffee House uses a round table and round chairs for this two-person seating position. All the couple's chairs are also still arranged on the edge of the wall on the second floor.

IMG_7950.jpeg
Fresh and green ornamental plants are still used as interior decoration of the second floor of the Fred Brew Coffee House. Fred Brew Coffee House's consistency in using this plant deserves my appreciation, I thought. Does Fred Brew Coffee House employ one special person to take care of all these plants. As a hydroponic practitioner, I know very well that plants must be cared for properly to stay fresh and beautiful. If the plant wilts, it will not contribute to the decoration of the room, instead it will make the room dull.

IMG_7954.jpeg
I guess that's all I can say about Fred Brew Coffee House. Do you also like the design and architecture of Fred Brew Coffee House?

Oh wow! In spite of being a small coffee shop, I love the way the interior spaces are designed - simply smooth, organic, and posh! The Architect/Interior Designer definitely succeeded in creating a relaxing atmosphere where customers can easily feel at home, work in peace, and socialize productively. Of course, with the company of their favorite brew! 😊👍

Based on the above photo, I believe you haven't mentioned those architectural details (with 3 red check marks) in your post. Not sure, but I have the strong impression that they are decorative wall features with concealed lighting systems to wash the white walls with radiance. What are your thoughts on those elements @isdarmady?

Special credit to anyone who has an idea to make the interior of Fred Brew Coffee House like this. I think it takes skill and also artistic value to make a small and narrow room look luxurious and classy.

Wow, very good detailed observation. You're right, it's a lighting device to help with lighting on the second floor. I think, will be used at night.

That's wonderful @isdarmady. We are definitely aligned with regards to that wall lighting detail. I could simply imagine its gorgeous illuminating effect during evenings, transforming the interior into a more dramatically conducive space. Plus, the peculiarity of its design is surely a head-turner, provoking the curiosity of customers. Cheers! 😊

that's an important point, as we know a narrow and elongated room like this doesn't have optimal natural light. Because of that, optimizing lights is one of the best solutions.

Hello dear @isdarmady , I have noticed that you visit many coffee shops and each one is more charming than the others.

I think you drink a lot of coffee, is it true?

This coffee shop has a very nice decoration, it invites you to hide there for a whole day. The terrace or second floor is charming.

Hello @tibaire thank you for stopping by
Coffee and coffee shops are part of the history of my life, about 3 years ago I still go around coffee shops to offer coffee from my family's coffee plantation and also palm sugar produced by my uncle. Since then, I intend to have my own coffee shop and often go to coffee shops to stay in touch.

Oh yeah, I'm a coffee drinker too. Fred Brew Coffee offers something different, whether you come alone or with friends, this coffee shop is worth a visit.

I knew it! I mean, I knew you had a close relationship with coffee and I came to think that you are a coffee fanatic and of course I am not wrong.

Now I understand a little more the reason for your posts so focused on coffee shops and you have many reasons: you like coffee, you sell coffee from your family's plantation, you sell sugar made by your uncle and most importantly you want a coffee shop. As my grandmother would say: "hijo de gato caza ratón", that is, it is the next step, to have your own coffee shop where you offer your family's coffee and sweetened with your uncle's sugar. Beautiful story.

I think you must have some very interesting ideas for your coffee shop! Also I have noticed that you like coffee shops with simple or rather minimalist tastes and with a lot of contact with nature, or am I a little bit wrong? You know the translator sometimes fails me.

I will be very happy when the plan comes true, like a dream come true.

Wow, very detailed observation. Of course, the two architectural and design styles are my favourites. I've always liked and appreciated coffee shops or cafes that can create unique and interesting designs when building space is limited. However, I also like coffee shops or cafes that use plants and gardens as their exterior. I like to pay attention to the interior development of coffee shops in my city, there are always new styles every year.
