Design and Architecture of Hibisco Cafe

HIBISCO cafe.jpg

Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am also very happy to be able to come back and participate in the Architecture+Design Community. This community is one of the communities in Hive that you should pay attention to and visit. Every day, we will be invited to travel around the world to see various buildings or landmarks that have interesting designs and architectures to discuss.

This time, I want to take part again and play an active role in this community. I want to share a story about my experience when I visited a cafe or coffee shop in Medan City, where I live. I want to invite my friends to Hibisco Café to see the design and architecture of this place.

Hibisco Cafe

A few days ago, I went to Hibisco Café which is located in Medan City. Administratively, Hibisco Café is located at T.B. Simatupang Street no. 166 Medan Sunggal District – Medan City. This cafe is one of the new cafes in the Medan Sunggal District, which opened in early 2022. For information, Medan Sunggal District is one of the districts on the outskirts of the city. In Indonesia, the suburban area is the area that becomes the first meeting of the urban area and the village area, so this will influence the choice of design and architecture of a Food and Beverage business.

Hibisco Café is in the same area as the Fuel Station. This cafe takes one position of the building at the back. The building used by this cafe is also wide and large. However, if we pay attention, the building used by this cafe seems to have not been completed yet. We can see the pillar foundations and walls on the second and third floors which are still unfinished. There are two reasons, I decided to go to this place. First, the location is not far from my old high school and close to my house. The second reason, this café often gets negative responses or feedback from some people who come to this café.

I came to this café during the day, from my observation the visitors from this café were quite busy. As for parking, this cafe has the advantage of being in the post station area which has a large parking area. This cafe has two areas, namely an indoor space and also a semi-outdoor area. We will discuss the outside or semi-outdoor space of this place first.

Semi Outdoor Area - Starbucks Vibes

When I entered this cafe, I saw the design and architecture that stood out from this cafe. We will also see the name of this cafe written on the front. I like the selection of fonts and colors from “Hibisco Café”, it really suits the concept that this café wants to display.

One of the uniqueness of this cafe lies on the roof. Hibisco Café modified and designed this roof section to be very attractive and prominent. Hibisco Café makes lacquered wood arrangements that are lightning fast and beautiful. The wooden frame that is made into the canopy is also made artistically with consistent patterns.

For the selection of furniture in this semi-outdoor area, Hibisco Café uses wooden tables and chairs as the furniture. In the front area, we will see a long and large wooden table with a capacity of eight people. We often see the concept of wooden furniture like this in family restaurants. Wooden furniture gives a beautiful and aesthetic impression to the visitors to this café. In addition, choosing furniture like this also gives the impression of being comfortable and friendly to people who come. I feel this cafe, using style

In addition, in the side area right leads to a refueling station. The choice of furnutire is somewhat different from the front. A long bar table combined with high bar stools makes for the right seat. I feel, this spot is a favorite for many people because when I come to this café, this area is full of visitors.

Indoor Area Hibisco Café

Next, I invite you to see the indoor space of this café. When viewed from the outside, the indoor area of this café uses transparent glass walls around the building. Glass walls can always give a positive impression on building design. When using a glass wall, the building will get a broad, transparent and like there are no boundaries.

Glass walls do have many advantages in terms of design and architecture but glass walls also have weaknesses, and that is exposed from the glass walls at Hibisco Café. Apart from being expensive and complicated to install, glass walls require extra maintenance when compared to cement or concrete walls. To get the advantages and benefits of a glass wall, this glass must be cleaned regularly and consistently. Unfortunately, some parts of the glass walls look dusty and dull. I feel, the glass walls of this cafe are not cleaned regularly.

Just like the semi-outdoor part of this café, we will also see the wooden decorations on the roof of this building. The consistency of the wooden ornaments on the roof emphasizes the architectural identity of this building. If we look at Starbucks, the vibes are increasingly felt in the indoor space of this Hibisco Café.

In addition to the wooden decorations on the roof, this café also displays several chandeliers as additional interior and room decorations. It's just that, if I pay attention to the indoor space of this cafe it looks very dark. I came in the afternoon, and it was a bit cloudy and dark. Hibisco Café does not turn on any lights and only relies on sunlight coming in from the glass walls. Because of that, when I walked into this room I felt a little dull. Maybe, because the lighting is not good.

For seating options, Hibisco Café uses several different furniture. We will be looking at couple seating as well as a table for 4 in this room. All furniture uses wood base materials. Apart from the various benefits that I mentioned earlier, wooden furniture also gives us a natural and natural impression.

IMG_9132 Large.jpeg

In addition, on each table, Hibisco Café places a pot of very beautiful edelweiss flowers. This flower gives and adds a natural impression to this café. However, as far as I know, edelweiss flowers in Indonesia are protected flowers, they cannot be picked and cannot be traded. So, this is a question for me personally. Is it permissible for the sake of beauty and aesthetics to destroy the environment and break the law?

IMG_9138 Large.jpeg

Okay, maybe this is just my story and impression on this Hibisco Café. One last thing that I love about this café, the food menu choices are very limited. I think, with an area this big and big, it's impossible for people to come just for a cup of coffee.

The cafe is spacious. It's ingeniuos to make use of the ceiling pattern to create an illusion of space. The use of woods in the architecture and interior brings home vibe to the space. !PIZZA

Hello @juecoree thank you for stopping by
Yup, this cafe is very spacious indeed. I feel that this coffee shop or cafe makes good use of all the remaining space. The ceiling in this cafe is indeed the best architecture of this cafe. Everyone who came seemed to be immediately noticed by it.

The ceiling has totally captured my attention. It looks like a work of art, very well thought out and in a way it reminds me of a video game called tetris.
