Design and Architecture of Mac & Co Coffee Shop

IMG_2404.jpeg

Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray that all of us, especially all members of the Architecture+Design Community, will always be given health and happiness in living this life. I am lucky to know and participate in this community. Every day, we can see a variety of inspiring and informative content about the design and architecture of various buildings around the world. This time, I also want to share stories about design and architecture from a place I recently visited.

A few days ago, I had an interesting experience. I got a promo discount coupon from a car wash that just had a grand opening in my city. As a discount enthusiast, I also visited the car wash and decided to wash my family's car there. After arriving at the car wash location, I saw that there was a unique building in that area, and it turned out to be a shop called Mac & Co Coffee Shop.

Mac & Co

IMG_2407.jpeg
Mac & Co is one of the new coffee shops in Medan City. I found these two coffees by accident when I went to the car wash. This coffee shop is in the same area as the car wash. The small building at the front is a coffee shop, and the area on the inside is a car wash. Very interesting business idea, combining two related and profitable businesses. Car wash customers waiting for their car to be washed at a coffee shop.

So, what's interesting about Mac & Co? We will discuss from the outside of this coffee shop building first. Mac & Co has an interesting building style, a square building with an additional corner at the door. The design of the building also looks simple but looks clean because of the predominance of the white color used.

If you look in more detail, the outer wall of this building is also unique because it uses rich concrete walls with a rough texture. I haven't seen this style of building wall for a long time. As I recall, my grandfather's house in the 90s used this wall style. On this wall, we can also see the logs from this coffee shop.

Even though it is in a large car wash area with monotonous asphalt dominance. We can still see Mac & Co getting a touch of plants around the building. Next to the building, the two coffee shops decorate it with plants such as banana leaves with wide and green leaves. Apart from that, several trees have also been planted in several corners to make this place green.

Indoor Spaces from Mac & Co

Mac & Co is a coffee shop that is not too large but this coffee shop is equipped with two rooms, indoor and outdoor. We will discuss the indoor part of this building. This coffee shop uses transparent glass doors that allow us to see the inside of the two coffee shops.

When I opened the door, I saw a unique view, namely a large glass that was installed on the side of the door next to the window. If we look at this glass, we can see the reflection of the barista table area. I think this glass trick is one of the concepts that this coffee shop is made of.

Mac & Co uses an open bar concept, we can see a bar table beside the wall of this coffee shop. The bar table from Mac & Co has a modern minimalist style, with all the coffee equipment neatly arranged on the table. Coffee bars in coffee shops are also one of the main attractions when it comes to coffee shops, especially when visitors and baristas frequently interact at coffee bars.

Indoor space from Mac & Co uses a minimalist and simple interior. We can see from the furniture used for these two coffees. Domination of tables and chairs made of wood and iron which are very comfortable for us to use. Positions between seats are also arranged very comfortably for visitors who come. While enjoying our orders, in this coffee shop we get access to a fairly wide visibility from the large windows that are mounted on the walls of this building.

Outdoor Spaces from Mac & Co
Next, I invite you to see the outdoor part of Mac & Co. It's like an obligation in the culinary business or coffee shop in my city to provide smoking areas, one of which is by creating an outdoor room to make visitors comfortable. Moreover, Mac & Co is also a waiting place for car wash customers, the majority of whom are male smokers.

Outdoor Space from Mac & Co is also very simple, the floor of this area is made using a combination of cement and gravel floors, like the industrial coffee shop design style that was trending last year. To make this area not too arid, we can see some trees that seem to have just been planted in this place. In addition, there are two portable tents available for shelter from the hot sun during the day.

For furniture in this outdoor area, Mac & Co chose furniture made of iron with a minimalist style. Iron furniture like this is perfect for outdoor spaces, because it is resistant to weather influences such as rain and heat.

That's all my story about the design and architecture of Mac & Co Coffee Shop, a story from an accident. Thanks for reading, and see you next time.

I like the indoor space with the natural cement color floor. it's like a mix between classic and semi-industrial. Great post, @isdarmady

I completely agree with you, this indoor section is very comfortable. I finished some work while waiting for my car to be washed. Also recommended for working space.

A small but powerfully engaging coffee shop indeed @isdarmady! Again, the color white or slight variations of it (as discussed in your previous post) has been fully utilized to give the impression of grandness, transforming an otherwise limited area into a visually spacious environment for customers. 👍😊

I simply love what they did with the windows here. Instead of typically placing the curved portions on top, they inverted them with their bottom location. Clever move, isn't it?

hello @storiesoferne so glad you came here.
I like the expression you use, it seems to describe this coffee shop very well and straightforward.

i also like those half round window, i never seen such design. Apparently, this idea is very fresh and can be an inspiration for other coffee shops.

Well said @isdarmady. For architecture and design to continue flourishing, they must always innovate, as clearly evidenced in this coffee shop regardless of its small dimensions. More power to your adventurous hunt for more spectacular Indonesian cafes! 😊

Setting up a car wash near a coffee shop is a very good business idea. There is a space to drink free coffee inside. Especially their planning techniques can be said to be successful. A color matching the interior is painted on the walls. Chairs and benches are also made of wood and iron in various shapes. The interior architecture adds more appeal to me.

hello @madushanka thank you for stopping by
That is very correct. Coffee shop and carwash make the waiting time even more enjoyable. What's more, if the coffee shop looks cool and attractive, it makes us more comfortable to wait.

hello @tibaire thank you for stopping by
Coffee and books are a sweet and interesting combination. I still remember the moments of enjoying books, before my attention was distracted by my smartphone. Apparently, reading books is also the right way to spend time waiting for the car to be washed.

@isdarmady You're right the smartphone has distracted us from such nice pastimes as reading a book.
