Hello everyone, how are you friends today? I hope and pray that all of us are always given health and happiness in living this life. A few weeks ago, I traveled out of town and in the middle of the trip, I stopped to rest and pray at one of the mosques which has a very beautiful and cool design and interior. I will share my experience this time.

The Great Mosque of Serdang Bedagai is located at Lintas Sumatra Medan – Tebing Tinggi Street, Firdaus Village, Teluk Mengkudu District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. The Great Mosque is right on the edge of the Sumatran highway which is passed by various vehicles every day. Its strategic location makes this mosque always crowded by Muslims who want to worship or people who pray and rest while traveling. If we go by the Binjai - Tebing Tinggi toll road, we can go out at the Teluk Mengkudu toll exit and the mosque is not far from the toll gate.

The Serdang Bedagai Grand Mosque was built and planned by the Serdang Bedagai district government. This mosque will be very striking because it is the only building in a radius of 100 m and is surrounded by oil palm plantations. The construction has been carried out since mid-2019 and was inaugurated on January 7, 2021, to coincide with the 17th anniversary of Serdang Bedagai Regency. There is a habit in the district government in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra.

I see that several districts or cities whose leaders (mayors or regents) have served for two terms will carry out lighthouse projects by building mosques or churches. Several political observers in Indonesia said that government officials in Indonesia always build religious buildings to attract public sympathy and this method is also considered the easiest because development funds come from local regional budgets and people's taxes.

Design and Interior

The white color dominates the Serdang Bedagai Grand Mosque. On the outside, we can see a large parking area and also a miniature Kaaba. This large yard is planned to be used as a public activity and also to carry out pilgrimage lessons for prospective pilgrims in Serdang Bedagai Regency.

One of the characteristics of the mosque is the dome. The Great Mosque of Serdang Bedagai also has a large dome in its core building. The dome is white with very symmetrical checkered accents, besides that what makes it unique is the motif of the roof corners around the dome. The roof angle model is similar to the traditional roof of a traditional Malay house. This contemporary dome design is very unique, because I have never seen it in the dome of any mosque in Indonesia. The first time I saw it, I thought it was similar to a UFO or flying saucer.

The Great Mosque of Serdang Bedagai has the design of the pillars in the form of a semicircle, and it seems to be the concept of the design of this mosque. The front of the mosque is covered with a canopy that uses a transparent roof or a thick glass roof. This makes the conditions inside the building brighter due to sunlight.

This mosque building has three main floors. The first floor is used for offices, the second and third floors are made for Muslims to pray. I really like the staircase design of this mosque building. In contrast to the storied staircase design, conventional stairs are indeed simpler and do not take up excessive space, but when we go up stairs we can be more tired. The stairs in this mosque are designed like a climbing path. The number of steps used is more but our steps are more relaxed and stairs like this can also be used for older people.

Now we see how the design inside the mosque. The inside of the dome of the mosque also has a very beautiful design. The terracotta color and ethnic ornaments around the inside of the dome create a different feel on the inside of the mosque. The red Turkish carpet is used as a place of worship, and teak wood ornaments are a very beautiful decoration for this part of the mosque.

I forgot something. When we come to this mosque, we will see many charity boxes with the shape of a grave. The shape of a charity box like this is unusual and very unique. As if, this charity box reminds us to always give charity.

Okay, this is my story this time. Hopefully friends get new information today.

Greetings friend @isdarmady, I see that this is a new mosque, its construction is recent and I like that it has a lot of natural lighting, so I am struck by the use of transparent roofs in addition to ramped stairs, which apart from being very decorated and aesthetically beautiful, are useful as you say for the elderly and I think thinking of all people with disabilities. I appreciate you showing us your interior and exterior details. Blessings!

That's right, the stairs make it easy for people with disabilities to get up using a wheelchair. I didn't think to write it down, thanks for reminding me. I only remember my grandmother, who often complained about having to climb stairs when going to the mosque.

Transparent roofs are often used in today's buildings, this is a way to save light and also provide positive energy to the building.

I certainly learned something new today and it is interesting to know that at least this Mosque owes its renovations to regional budget and taxes.

sincerely it is very beautiful and I understand that people on the road can see it from far away because of its large dome and unique design, as you say almost like a flying saucer.

there is a bit of misunderstanding in society and government in my country. The government believes that building buildings is the government's way of running the government. for me, making useful public policies is more important than building.

because of the beauty of the building in this mosque, many people make it a place of religious tourism.

Tienes razón en tener ese punto de vista aún así esperemos sigan cuidando de tan bella construcción.

You're right to have that point of view yet Let's hope you continue taking care of such a beautiful construction.

charity boxes with the shape of a grave

Wow, what a subtle and tactful way it is to remind us that we must do good while we are alive, because we are mortal and often forget it. 😊
Hi @isdarmady, you are here again with another alien construction. I am absolutely amazed by the futuristic design of Islamic religious buildings in your country!
I am sure that every single detail of this spectacular project has its symbolic meaning, but only the architects and sponsors are the ones who can say what it is. And we, ordinary mortals, can only admire it and say that it is alien. 😊

That's right, when we are still alive we must remember to always do charity. I don't know if it's related, but I see all the rich people in the world are always doing very big charities too and are still rich.

that's right, it takes a careful plan from the architect and sufficient funds to create a building with a unique and attractive design.

I accidentally saw it, at that time I lacked a toll card balance and had to go out at the toll road exit and accidentally saw this mosque with a cool and amazing design. If my card balance is sufficient, I might not find this mosque.

Providence knows its job, @isdarmady 😊 That's what I can say in this regard. As for the rich people, I think they all are aware of this prominent spiritual rule that you have to give in order to receive.
There is also something else that connects rich people - they often build or sponsor church buildings (and this is clearly another spiritual law). And this is close to what you say about the rulers of your country and the construction of religious buildings on their part.
Anyways, they still do something useful when building such imposing and beautiful buildings such as Serdang Bedagai Grand Mosque.

it's absolute truth. Whatever the reasons and motives, we should be grateful for the development carried out. Especially building houses of worship.

Hello @isdarmady. This is the first time I've seen a mosque dome designed like a king's crown! At least that's how I perceive it. What were your primary reactions when you were in that sacred building's presence?

Well, that's the king's crown. The dome is exactly like a crown. I thought hard about it while writing it, but couldn't find it. Thank you @storiesoferne

My first reaction was of course amazed and impressed with the building. For me, the mosque is always special because when I often travel when our funds are limited, I often rest at the mosque. Of course, a mosque that does not have a fence. I also hope that the Great Mosque of Serdang Bedagai will not only serve as a place of worship but also as a center of activity.
