Romaine Lettuce in Hydroponic Installation and Vegetable Development in My Hydroponic Garden - Hydroponic Journal #6

avatar

Hello everyone and Hive Garden Community, How are you all? How is the condition of the plants and flowers that you care for with love and affection? I hope that all of us are always healthy and happy to spend the day and that all the plants we care for produce maximum results. For those of you who grow fruits and vegetables, I hope the harvest is good and plentiful. For those of you who are caring for flowers, hopefully the plants are always beautiful and not attacked by pests.

As usual, every Monday is My Hydroponic Journal time. I will recapitulate what I did over the past week in my hydroponic garden and also the hydroponic installations I did for other people.

Check Hydroponic Installation

Last week, I did a routine check with one of the people who ordered hydroponic installation from me. I made a hydroponic installation using a 2.5 inch PVC pipe as a place for vegetables to be planted and 1 inch as a support. Creatively, PVC pipes can be formed into practical and interesting hydroponic installations. The installation is in the form of a six-storey building with 205 planting holes. The formation of multilevel hydroponic installations can be used for space and is more efficient.

There are two hydroponic installation units with a total of 410 planting holes. One of the installations, we planted with romaine lettuce. This vegetable is very popular since the covid-19 pandemic, many people use romaine lettuce as a salad. This lettuce has a soft and crunchy texture when you bite it, you just need to add a little sauce or olive oil to eat it right away.

During the planting process, we carry out routine maintenance of pest spray using garlic solution and also always control the ppm level in the bucket. We set the ppm for this romane lettuce around 600-700 ppm.

For the second hydroponic installation, we planted various types of vegetables, such as samhong, bok choi, and caisim. All these types of vegetables belong to the mustard greens group. We set the water concentration around 1000 ppm.

Kangkong

Next we go to my hydroponic garden, there are some vegetables that are progressing very well and will be harvested this week. First I invite you to see the development of kangkong. I use fertilizer levels of around 600 ppm, this is far below the standard where kangkong should need ppm levels of around 1000 ppm. This is my test project to save liquid fertilizer, and it worked for kangkong.

The kangkong I planted has grown almost 15 cm in height last week, and will grow 2-3 times longer this week. You can see the green color of this vegetable that is wet from the rain, looks very tempting and makes anyone who sees it cook it.

Romaine Lettuce

I grow these vegetables along with romaine lettuce in a PVC hydroponic installation. Because, at that time I sowed too many seeds, and I put some of them on Styrofoam media. The development is quite good, although it must be admitted that using the circulation system in hydroponic produces better plants than the ones I planted in Styrofoam media.

To grow romaine lettuce, there is no need for special or special treatment. Because this plant is quite easy to care for and grow, in my experience the most difficult phase is the nursery because the viability of this romaine lettuce seed is very low. But if it has been successfully sown, then the growth is no problem.

Caisim (Sweet Mustard)

For this vegetable, I have harvested some of it last week. Because, I idly made an advertisement for selling these vegetables in the marketplace and there were a lot of fans. However, there are still some caisim harvested this week.

Fortunately, I have prepared a good planting cycle because when some caisim are 35 days after planting and have been harvested, there are still caisim that are 17 days after planting.

Samhong

Samhong, also known as curly mustard greens, is often used as a substitute for lettuce in Korean grill menus. . This vegetable has very wide leaves and long white stems.

We are routinely planting and cultivating these vegetables for after this year. The reason is very simple. First, samhongs are fairly easy to care for and not very pest-free; Second, short plant life of about 30-35 days with good weight; Third, and most importantly, the sales market is still wide open.

I have harvested some of these vegetables, but because there are some plants whose growth is not uniform, so there is a delayed harvest. I also transferred samhong plants to garden media, there were about 120 planting holes that I filled with samhong seeds aged 10 days after sowing.

Bitter Mustard

I was made dizzy with the development of this vegetable. Usually, this vegetable has never had a problem during the planting process but this month. There are symptoms of this vegetable growing unevenly, and its growth is very lame. Some have grown with very wide leaves and others are still very small. It seems that intensive observation should be carried out.

Okay, this is my hydroponic journal this time. Many benefits we get when gardening or caring for plants. The presence of plants can help increase a positive mood. Gardening activities can bring us closer to nature, and help focus and live a calmer life and most importantly reduce symptoms of depression.

the first step, is to sow the seeds in rockwool (hydroponic growing media)

Hey @isdarmady! You have a cool job! I've only watches about Hydroponics in videos. It's amazing to find someone who does it here in Hive! Your plants are also looking healthy!

Do you have this placed outdoors? or in a closed setup?

it's in an outdoor area, but I use a transparent roof to prevent and minimize rainwater.
Thank you for stopping by...
