Utilizing Defact Vegetables in Hydroponic Gardens to Feed Catfish in Fiber Pools

Hello everyone
How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am very happy, finally given the time and opportunity to participate and contribute to the Homesteading Community. What story will I share this time? keep watching my post below.

As my friends know, indirectly I am implementing a homesteading lifestyle in my life. I try to use the rest of my house to do gardening activities with a hydroponic farming system. I get many benefits such as no longer needing to buy vegetables from traditional markets or fresh markets because I get all the vegetables I need from my own hydroponic garden.

In addition to carrying out activities to grow vegetables for their own needs. I also try to improve the food security system in my neighborhood by raising and breeding catfish independently at my house.

Since 40 days ago, I bought a used fiber pool from a second hand dealer in my city. Initially, I came to the thrift store to look for tables and chairs but, my attention was diverted when I saw this fiber tub which was still in good quality. I then bought it for IDR 250K (16.76USD) and planned to do freshwater fish farming such as catfish, tilapia, or gouramy. For information, a new fiber tub like that costs almost IDR 1 M (67 USD) and it looks like I'm doing a good deal this time.

After that, I bought catfish puppies from a fish seed shop. I bought as many as 500 catfish seeds for me to raise in my own house. I have a plan to optimize and condition my hydroponic garden and fish farming.

In my hydroponic garden, I see that every planting period there are always vegetables that are damaged either by pests or because they don't grow optimally. So far, I usually just throw away these damaged vegetables, but I think that these defact vegetables can actually be optimized for animal feed. However, I can't raise goats or cows in town because it will disturb my neighbours. So, cultivating catfish might be the right way.

Catfish is the most popular freshwater fish in Indonesia. Because of its popularity, we can find fried catfish food outlets and it can be found all over Indonesia. Caring for and cultivating catfish is also known to be easy and can be done by everyone. In addition, catfish are also known as fish that eat everything. Catfish can eat plants and even eat carrion.

So, how's the result? To be honest, my catfish growth is not very good because some catfish grow bigger and some catfish don't grow. During these 40 days, I have been doing routine feeding, namely fish pellets and adding vegetable waste from my hydroponic garden. These catfish are very greedy for food, all the vegetables that I put in the pond are eaten by the catfish. For this, it is a happy moment for me, I feel I am making the earth better because it optimizes waste for catfish feed.

To be honest, the problem of non-uniform growth of catfish can actually be overcome by sorting. Small catfish must be moved to a separate pond and get extra feed. The problem is, I only have one pool at home, and can't do that.

Despite all the problems and dynamics that I experienced while cultivating catfish at home. I got a lot of new lessons, and new experiences. I am even more excited to get even better results in the future. Try it, friends, imagine, I have a vegetable crop at my house and I also have catfish and both of which we can consume ourselves. If there's a natural disaster or whatever, at least we can survive longer.

Maybe this is the only story I can share this time. Hopefully my post this time can provide information and inspiration to all my friends. Maybe, I will come back when this catfish can be harvested and cooked.
