Will becoming famous stop me from living as a minimalist?

I discovered that the only way I can keep myself from making purchases impulsively is by not being able to access money when the urge sets in. For instance, if I have a few dollars sitting in my account by the time I crave shawarma and drink, the tendency for me to get up and get them is huge.

After all the money is there, so what stops me from making myself feel better by buying the things I crave? Nothing! Except for discipline. Which I sincerely do not have when it comes to spending.

I also notice this with my food budget. If I had budgeted for everything and got them at home, leaving an empty account lying around I'll be able to discipline myself enough to eat what's on the pantry because there's nothing more that I can do. But if I fill my pantry with the foods I'll be needing for a month and I still have a few dollars left in my account, this is what will happen.....

In the next few days before the money finally runs out, I'll not touch the food in my pantry...Never!!!. My entire head will be on the money in the account. I wouldn't cook any food. I will just snack around, drink, snack more, wasting the money until it's gone. When it's finally finished, I'll realize I had food that I could have eaten while the money remained where she was. But I did not.

I gave in to my impulses and bought things that costs more (snacks are costly in the sense that you will be able to buy a few for a lot of dollars since you pay more for small portions. So to fill my tummy, I have to buy a lot and that costs a lot of money too).

So, to keep myself away from spending, I do not have money lying around my account after all my expenses has been accounted for. My friend keeps hating and screaming at me for not always having money in my account. He says I should have a few, In case of an emergency. I just stare at him and say nothing because I know myself.

I don't remember which book I read, maybe, it was this book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, but the author told me that if I noticed I lived the way I explained above, then, one of the ways I can keep myself from always asking, where did my money go? is by first, investing my money, locking them away before anything else.

This way, whatever it is I am spending on would be from the left over which might be measly (when I have measly money overspending is thrown out of the window because I will be careful so I'll be able to survive for as long as possible before the next funds come).

He did also say I should have a certain percentage that I can just go out and blow over. The reason is so I wouldn't feel as though I am missing out on anything which might trigger overspending the next time I have a lot of money.

With this, if I became famous with celebrity status and I was the only member in my family with such acquired wealth, there's only one way I could be able to maintain my minimalist lifestyle. This would be not having much money around as always.

I would first send them off to an investment portfolio that I wouldn't be able to access especially ones that have a locked feature. A locking feature that I can only access after the waiting period is over. Then live on the remaining.

Even the remaining ones will have to run errands. If it's stocking my pantry, subscribing to my devices, sending money to my family for their upkeep, or blowing off the amount that would make me not feel as though I am missing out on anything like the author said.

That's it! Not being able to access a huge sum of money to splurge around when my impulsive buying habit sets in is the only way I know I'll be able to win.

There's always this spirit that comes with landing a lot of money at a go, you suddenly remember all the things you've always wanted to buy. And now that's within your reach, what stops you from taking a trip to the stores and buying them off the shelf? Nothing.

So, my minimalist lifestyle might be thrown out of the window if I become famous and start accessing lots of funds that I probably wouldn't know what to do with all of them (not me though I have learned a lot about money that I would definitely know what to do right before my head started asking me to buy things... Hehe).

Right now, being in debt helps me do that because right before any amount of money hits my account, it's already settled that it goes straight to paying off debt. This leaves me with zero balance or enough to manage food, data subscription, and any other monthly expenses.

I already told myself that once I get out of debt, I would still treat my earnings as though I was in debt. This time I would be owing myself. So I'll send the amount on errands instead of allowing it to chill in my account. I am going to have to live like this until God knows when. It helps me. It might sound crazy or weird to another person and I wouldn't argue because we are all playing our financial games on different grounds. What works for me might not work for the next human.

I was just smiling reading how having money at hands made you feels, story of my life.lol

You seem to have found a great way to deal with impulse buying. I try not to keep my money where I can easily access it. Impulse buying is a great challenge for a lot of us that needs to be controlled.

Lol. Having money at hand makes me want to seize the whole world by the throat... Hahaha

I am glad you could relate. It means a lot to know that someone understands how this feels.

Impulse buying is something we all need control over.

Thank you darling for coming around as always, I appreciate you. ❣️

This is true. When a large amount drops our discipline flies out the window. For people like me who do not touch large amounts really often, it is really hard to focus when money comes. But it is something I have been training myself on and it has been working.

The secret to a minimalist lifestyle is keeping things as simple as they're supposed to be. Impulsive purchases are out of the question because you should have set and planned out your budget. I purchase things impulsively and you can't come close to me when it comes to spending loads of money on junk and snacks. It's something I've worked a lot towards stopping. It's working gradually though.
