Hola amigos amantes de la naturaleza, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes las fotografías que tomé de un Abejorro carpintero, conocido también en algunos países como Mangangá. Este curioso insecto entró a mi casa un poco desorientado en horas nocturnas, seguramente atraído por los bombillos.

Hello friends, nature lovers, today I want to share with you the pictures I took of a Carpenter Bumblebee, also known in some countries as Mangangá. This curious insect entered my house a little disoriented at night, probably attracted by the light bulbs.

Este abejorro se mantuvo por unos minutos merodeando cerca del techo, hasta que parece que se dio cuenta de que no iría a ningún lado y decidió posarse sobre el borde de una lámpara para dormir y esperar el amanecer, algo que me pareció como evidencia de una inteligencia o percepción superior a las de otros insectos que se mantiene todo la noche confundidos chocando contra los bombillos, pues tengo entendido que se orientan mediante la luz solar y las luces artificiales los desorientan completamente.

This bumblebee hovered for a few minutes near the ceiling, until it seemed to realize that it was not going anywhere and decided to perch on the edge of a lamp to sleep and wait for dawn, something that seemed to me as evidence of an intelligence or perception superior to those of other insects that stay all night confused bumping against the bulbs, as I understand that they are oriented by sunlight and artificial lights disorient them completely.

Pero lo más insólito no es esto, sino la forma en que decidió descansar, pues con sus dos macanas sujetó el borde de la lámpara y su cuerpo quedo completamente suspendido en el aire, sostenido nada más que por sus macanas. Fue allí cuando decidí tomar las fotografías y ni siquiera se percató de mi presencia. Así permaneció toda la noche, suspendido por sus macanas, hasta que finalmente a eso de 6 de la mañana cuando el cielo aclaró, emprendió vuelo y salió por la ventana.

Me di a la tarea de investigar un poco sobre este peculiar insecto, y no pude encontrar en internet un abejorro negro que tuviese la cola dorada, pero de todas formas asumo que se trata de un abejorro carpintero pues son iguales nada más que de colores distintos.

I did some research on this peculiar insect, and I could not find on the internet a black bumblebee with a golden tail, but I assume that it is a carpenter bumblebee because they are the same but with different colors.

Al respecto según Wikipedia, existen unas 500 especies y 31 subgéneros, su nombre científico es Bombus, son grandes polinizadores, se alimentan principalmente de néctar y alimentan a sus crías con polen. Son robustos y velludos negros completamente o negros con amarillo, o rojo, y miden unos 20 milímetros. Sus nidos no son como los de las abejas mieleras, estos abejorros hacen nido en orificios naturales o en orificios dejados por roedores, o construyen sus nidos con trocitos de paja y otros materiales vegetales sobre el suelo. Dentro de sus nidos se pueden observar celdas en donde crecen las larvas y producen algo de miel, sin embargo, estas celdas no son tan organizadas como las de los panales de abeja.
