Hello friends from Hive, today I want to share with you pictures of a collectible antique toy airplane, which belonged to my grandfather.

IMG_20211110_114001.jpg

This is a Douglas DC-7C Seven Seas tinplate aircraft, apparently from the 1960s as I was able to find out on the internet, there are a number of different collectible models. Its origin is not very clear to me, I found out some were manufactured in Japan, others in Germany, I will have to inspect the inside of the plane thoroughly when I go back to my grandparents house, to see if somewhere it says where it was manufactured.

IMG_20211110_114143.jpg

This plane has a mechanism in which the wheels make the propellers turn, when you make it advance on the ground, the propellers will turn, its wings are detachable, and it is hollow inside, so it can be used to store something there, although considering that any child will want to play with it, it doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

IMG_20211110_114856.jpg

As a child I loved to play with this plane, it was magical when it was taken out of the closet where it is still kept, and I'm not going to lie to you, it is still magical to me, plus that closet belonging to my grandparents has a very characteristic smell of wood that transports me to my childhood.

As for the real Douglas DC-7C Seven Seas aircraft I was able to find out according to Wikipedia, that it was manufactured in North America by Douglas Aircraft Company between 1953 and 1958, and different variants were manufactured, they were the DC-7, DC-7B, DC-7C Seven Seas, DC-7D and DC-7F. A total of 338 were manufactured, of which 40 are still in operation, and of the variant that corresponds to the tinplate aircraft, 121 were manufactured. This was an improved variant of the previous ones, being able to make non-stop transatlantic trips, its fuel capacity is greater, its wings are longer and it has a capacity of between 99 and 105 passengers. Eventually this aircraft was overshadowed by the appearance of the Boeing 707 and the Douglas DC-8, so its sales were reduced.

I wish I could tell you many more about this plane, but my mother and my aunt, don't remember what year it was purchased, and whether it was a gift from my grandfather to one of them as a toy or it was an ornament he acquired for himself, I think the last idea is more accurated.

Below are more photos I took of the plane.

I hope you liked to watch this antique toy, it is very valuable to me, and i guess i would get a good price for it in Pawn Stars hahah.
