Lights & Structures @M Museum | M馆建筑和灯饰

Sometimes, we don't treasure something when having it, and then, we would be hit by regrets after losing it...

This sad sad story is about the M Museum in Leuven, a university town in Belgium. I once took a course at this art museum as part of my Master's program. Young and naive, I often skipped classes as I thought the lectures were boring. Now, I have to pay to visit this museum, and I have come to realize that the architecture here is quite impressive, and the collections and exhibitions are amazing.

Ok, enough of the story of my life... In this post, let me show you the M Museum building and its festive lights.

I once blogged about the L Museum of Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) in the French-speaking part of Belgium. The M Museum here is in the Flemish-speaking town where I did my Master's study in Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL). Like Oxford and Cambridge, the 2 universities used to be the same one, but later they separated as rivals. It's interesting that the museums are called L and M in these 2 university towns.

The new M museum was officially opened in 2009 as a redeveloped project. After restoring the historic Vander Kelen-Mertens house and a former University College building of Sint-Ivo., another two modern blocks were added. The clean lines and sculptures coexist harmoniously with the surrounding old houses in red bricks. To some extent, the rigid geometry and materials remind me of the Brutalist L Museum building.

I found those Christmas and New Year lights beautiful too. So, I shot a group of photos using my prime lens and had fun playing with the settings. Hope you will enjoy them too, and happy holidays!:D

之前写过比利时法语区鲁汶大学的L博物馆，典型的粗野建筑，这次要说的是荷语区鲁汶的M博物馆。历史上，两个大学城的大学本是一家，后来分家成为对头，类似牛津和剑桥的关系，就连两地博物馆的命名都这么相似。

我曾经有一门课就是在这M艺术馆上的，可惜当时觉得无趣经常逃课，也没拍过照片，过了这么多年才惊觉这个博物馆建筑还挺美的，馆藏和展览也很丰富，去年因为疫情办了全国通卡后还专门来了好几次。又是一个拥有时不懂得珍惜，失去了才后悔莫及的伤心故事XD……

这个新馆建成于2009年，在修复古建筑的基础上增加了两栋现代区块，简洁的线条和雕塑跟周围的红砖老房子和谐共存、相映成趣。我觉得那些圣诞新年的灯饰也很好看，用定焦头调整设置拍了一组照片，来此分享，顺祝节日快乐！:)
