Why it is important to take steps to prevent climate change? #LPUD is here

There was a time when I would read about the importance of taking the steps to prevent climate changes in textbooks.
Today the reality is very different. We find the climate changes are triggering erratic weather, more severe summers and winters.
Places which did not experience extreme summers are witnessing extreme summers. A case in point is Europe.
There are flash floods that cause loss of life and properties.

You may be living in any part of the world but the actions we take collectively affect us all. All the carbon based fuel that we burn increases the CO2 emission and makes our earth hotter.

The ice and glaciers begin to melt, sea levels increase and it threatens life in the sea and the rising oceans can submerge the low lying lands and countries.

Thus climate change is not something that would happen in the future rather it is the harsh reality of today.
This has triggered the need to take action ourselves on a personal level as well as collectively as a community and as society.

I strongly feel that we have to be the change you want to see in the world.

The things I have started doing to prevent Climate change are as follows.
I am making conscious choices to prevent my own carbon footprint and that of my family and household.

Cut down on paper usage

Earlier I used to get a lot of paper reports and publications which were like company reports, announcements and publications. All these are printed on paper which comes from the cutting of trees.
I have made the conscious choice and decision of writing to all these senders not to send me these paper reports instead send me the electronic (e-mail ) communications instead.

This way I am able to reduce the number of trees that would be cut down to make all the paper I use.
Instead of using paper notebooks I try to make notes on my mobile or take voice notes.
These are easier to manage and do not consume all those trees in order to make paper.

devices use electricity

I Have made the conscious effort to replace my electric driven home appliances by more energy efficient and star compliant devices.

Power consumption of devices

I am planning to put up solar panels that would reduce if not completely eliminate the dependence of my household on the power grid.
Not to mention it would also reduce my electricity bill.

Change the way I commute

For short distance travel I prefer to walk rather than depending on a gasoline driven vehicle.
Even when I have to use the car I make it a point to see if there is an option of a car pool.
This way we can economize on fuel usage and also reduce the emission of gases into the environment.

Let us not forget the LPUD

Today is the 15th and it happens to be the leo power up day of LPUD for us Inleo community members.
I have been actively celebrating the day for quite some time now.

It has benefited me a lot as the staked leo has increased my leo vote value and I get better curation rewards with a higher stake.
Plus the opportunity to win some big delegation prizes and participation badges is always a great incentive.

I have powered up with 151 Leo tokens and hopefully I may win a delegation
You too can power up 50 or 150 (or more) LEO tokens on this 15th and be eligible for some amazing prizes.

Here is a detailed post about the LPUD prizes and eligibility.

This post is made in response to the "February Monthly Prompt Initiative" that can be found here
