I recently heard about a news that instead of handshakes, people are encouraged instead to put their palm on their left chest and bow. It will be a sign to congratulate someone or by showing respect. Our country is known for the custom "mano" by which younger people will take the hand of the elderly, and put on their forehead to show respect.

Some younger complained about putting the the palm on the chest and bowing stating that it's an imitation of either Korean and Japanese culture. Of course, there'll always be complaints, mostly from young ones today like they know everything. It's not to underestimate them, but they might not be aware that younger Filipinos then do such an act of respect.

I remember when I was still in primary school, when we got to cross path with a teacher, we stop from walking, put our hand on our left chest, then bow while greeting them "Good morning madam", depending on the period of the day. When in secondary school, simply bowing and a greeting is enough. However, we don't see such act of respect anymore. It might be the younger generations bow to any person because they're imitating such act from Korean drama series which are very popular in the country.
