Above the Clouds: Through the Struggle to Stillness at Buko Buko Peak, Philippines

There are mountains you climb to reach the top, and there are mountains you climb to find peace. For me, Buko Buko Peak was the second one.

The Journey
We left our barangay while it was still dark and cold. We rode a car to the jump-off point in Barangay Olympog. The road went higher as we got closer to the mountain. When we arrived, it was still cold and dark. It even started to rain a little. We thought we came at the wrong time.

The Hike
The trail was full of tall grass and loose rocks. Some rocks were small, and some were big. The path was not easy. My legs started to hurt, and I got tired quickly. Every step needed effort, but I kept going.

After some time, we stopped at a small wooden resting area. We could hear birds and other small animals. The fresh air made us feel calm. It was a nice place to rest.

Remember when I said we thought we came at the wrong time? We were wrong. We came at the perfect time. The rain stopped, there was no hot sun, and we watched a beautiful sunrise.

The Summit
Finally, we reached the top.
The first thing I said was, "Wow!"

The mountains were green and beautiful. The air was cool and fresh. The sunrise made everything look even more amazing. We stood there quietly for a while, enjoying the view. Of course, we also took many photos to remember the moment.

I have to share a funny and terrifying moment on the way back to the starting point. I almost fell off a cliff! I slipped and slid; I was able to prevent myself from fully falling off because there was a cliff beside me.

What I Learned
Buko Buko Peak gave me more than a beautiful view. It reminded me to slow down and be thankful. Sometimes we forget that there is a big and beautiful world around us. Our problems may feel heavy, but they are only a small part of life.

That is why I enjoy climbing mountains. It is not only about reaching the top or taking pictures. It is about the peace and happiness I feel along the way.

This trip reminded me that life is not only about reaching our goals. It is also about enjoying the journey. We should take time to see the beauty around us, appreciate nature, and be thankful for every moment.

Sometimes, slowing down is the best way to move forward.

These are my personal photos. I am the owner. Edited through canva.
