Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1083)

Hello Everyone!

Life is a barrage of curve balls, Adjusting my timing, A sprung trap, Dodgy connectivity & One tasty passion fruit!

I am sliding in here under the proverbial 'wire' with my timing and it is now eleven minutes before sunset... so yay for staying on track with my writing routine. That said though, it may prove tricky to reorient myself once the time changes for 'daylight savings time' in a few days but hey what is life without getting served a barrage of 'curve balls' along the way!

At least I have been feeding the critters early the last few days (in preparation for the change) so maybe it will not be quite as tricky as I am anticipating that it will be. I know that I already complained about the 'time change' yesterday but seriously it is utter hogwash that doing so is still a thing in this day and age. It is not like there is not enough damned turmoil and frigging chaos going on in the world already to make even the most mentally stable person feel unhinged... but I best not get off on a tangent about all that jazz.

Last night the weather did not get down to the freezing temperatures we were expecting even though they got incredibly close to it... which is fine in some ways... but it also meant that getting into the shop tent again this morning (to hunt the rodents and clean the place out) was a no go. I did check the rat trap that I set yesterday evening in there... but all I found was a sprung trap that had only the smallest bit of the peanut butter bait eaten.

From the looks of the trap it is possible that either a mouse sprung it... or a rat approached it from the wrong side... and between the size of the rat and its proportion to the size of the trap... when it sprung the force of the 'hammer' (it is the deadly part of a spring trap) coming down was not quite strong enough to deliver a fatal blow... or... it was just ineffective due to the rats position. Long story short there I reset the trap and will check it again in the morning.

Anyways, the day was quite gorgeous and I went on several hikes in an effort to not just stay in the habit of doing so... but also because I have been feeling much more aggravated than I am accustomed to feeling. Some of that aggravation is from two nights in a row of my internet connectivity being dodgy 'as all get out' and everything taking way too long to do online... which (like I said in my last entry) is messing up my routines and thus my sleep cycle. I also have had the same connectivity problems all day today... which yeah is just compounding my annoyance over it all!

It probably would not be all that big of a deal if it were just 'slow' but it flat out just stops working altogether then randomly starts working again. Having checked all the components of my 'internet connection rig' (cellphone, repeater and router) again and again I have yet to find a problem with them which leads me to think that it is at the cell tower where the problem is originating... and of course I have zero control over that aspect of things!

On a different note, I could not resist cutting open that passion fruit that I 'harvested' yesterday... and I was pleasantly surprised at how good that it tasted. I have no idea how I have lived this long without ever eating one but whoa I am totally hooked on them now. As far as the seeds go they even looked rather mature so come springtime we will see what happens with them when I plant them.

Alright, I just realized that I forgot to get the chicken coop all closed up (and drop the tarp and blanket on two of its sides) for the cold weather tonight and need to cut this short and go take care of it. I am also feeling way too moody to keep writing and want to slog through the editing and posting (dodgy internet connection and all) and get on with my evening. Hopefully along the way I can get some better rest tonight because I assuredly need it!

I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice time.

I am glad the passion fruit was ripe enough to eat. When our internet goes out Donny goes into a rage. He likes reading and following people in vans and sailboats.

Well if it is any help to you... it takes me a lot to lose mine... ever! I learned first hand why it is bad for a fella in life to bear such a temper.

We all have our ups and downs and little hissy fits over dumb things... but it seems like wanting to be mad is a big fat waste of time. It also tends to hurt not just other folks but ourselves also.
