Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1112)

Hello Everyone!

The crypto shuffle, A rainy day, The berm holds, Cooped up coding & A need for more hiking!

Alright, I have sat here long enough without typing anything and better dive in before the hour grows much later. For what it was worth I was 'on time' with my routines... and got distracted when I noticed that some EXODE cards had sold on the market... which of course lead me to begin poking around in my collection and adjusting a few prices now that Hive has gone up slightly in value.

Depending on all these 'trickles of income' means tending to each component which creates a trickle... and whoa is it easy to get sidetracked along the way. Lately I have even been buying and selling some tiny amounts of 'Layer 2' tokens... simply to try to earn a little extra each month. It assuredly 'all adds up' but dealing with the amounts that I am... it is a slow process.

Earlier today I liquidated a bunch of HBD and combined it with some Hive that I have been setting aside... and got the money that I needed together so that was good. For a moment I thought about leaving it all as BTC but given the small amount... the market would have needed to be quite volatile and in my favor... which made it not worth the risk!

At least I can now put all that stuff out of my mind... and look at how I can get my HBD in savings back 'up to par' so that I can keep getting a decent return on its APR. When everything was said and done (after doing the crypto shuffle) a good portion of what I liquidated was the last few months interest... so I am more or less back where I started.

No complaints there because at least I am 'treading water' and once I quit delegating as much HP as I can to the Homesteading Community... I can start doing something else with my author rewards that get paid in HP. As for the HBD the best thing that I can do is either keep fractionally dumping it into my savings... or try to swap it for Hive when the Hive price is low... and do some micro earning by converting it back to HBD when the Hive price goes back up.

Anyways, the day was quite overcast and although it sprinkled rain on and off that storm never blew in. It is currently sitting not that far south of here so I am sure we will get it eventually... but I really thought that it would have gotten here by now. There is a small chance that the brunt of it will miss us altogether... but the longer that I look at the radar the less likely that seems.

As far as days go, it was not a super productive one even though I did make some minor progress on one of my coding projects. I think that I started tinkering with it a few hours after sunrise and it was late afternoon by the time I noticed that the bulk of the day had passed me by.

That little berm that I built yesterday seems to have held up to the rain rather well but now that the leaves are damp (and weighted down) there are a lot fewer of them than I thought that there were. For now I am sure it is fine but I am going to have to do a lot more work on that berm if it is going to become 'a piece of the yard' like I want it to.

Since the leaves were just a convenient 'filler' for the project... and make for a good first layer (to help seal beneath the log) there is definitely more to be done... like adding clay, some rocks (if I can find any) or smaller sticks under the log. Then I will need to cover everything with topsoil and hopefully some kind of sod (or just clumps of living plants) to help hold the berm together.

After working on that project the other day, I got to thinking about possibly creating a terrace in the dog yard using a similar technique... but much like my garden area... I cannot figure out where to put it. The only really useful place that I can think of for it is around the fire pit area... which might work out as long as I keep it minimal and avoid blocking the trail.

On a different note. Being cooped up so much sure has been wearing on me... and much of the time the day seems to have 'already passed me by' by the time I notice that sunset is approaching. Mainly, I keep focusing on my computer projects and often feel torn between continuing to work on them... or getting outdoors... and by the time that I overcome 'being torn' the daylight is mostly gone... and it is rapidly approaching my time to start writing.

None of which is a 'problem' or anything but I then do all the writing... and then dive back into the coding projects again... until I burn myself out for the day... which by then is usually in the wee hours of the morning. It seems to be my cycle lately and I am just 'going with it' instead of struggling against it... but I absolutely need to start forcing myself to go hiking more often.

Well, I think that is about it for this entry. I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice time.
