Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1130)

Hello Everyone!

Chilly weather, A fuzzy morning, Ordering anti-pestilence supplies & Some things make no sense!

Alright, the sun is going to set soon and I am starting my writing early tonight. Which by all accounts is a heck of a lot better than what happened last night when I began very late in the evening... and could not get everything wrapped up, edited and posted until a few minutes before midnight.

That was all quite the slog and afterwards I was so wiped out that I could not even muster the focus required to work on my projects like I usually do. Honestly, I am a bit fuzzy on whether I attempted to work on stuff (and gave up within a few minutes) or if I just zoned out watching some entertainment videos online... but I think it was the latter.

You would think that I would have been able to fall asleep quickly after all that jazz... but for the life of me I could not quite get myself to doze off until the wee hours of the morning. Mainly that was because of a bunch of things nagging at me in regards to the status of my projects and various 'ideas' that I was not able to explore earlier in the day.

In other words I once again found myself being up entirely too late and then sleeping most of the morning away. Once I was 'up and about' for the day I had a heck of a time shaking off the sleepiness... and although I muddled through some of the ideas that had kept me up the night before... lets just say that... so far today I am unimpressed with the results.

On a brighter note. I recently got some funds gifted to me for the holidays and although there were plenty of things that I needed it for... I decided to spend all but six dollars of it on items to aid me in my battle against the pestilence. What I got was a waterproof (and more importantly) bug proof cover for the mattress in the cabin... and three sixteen ounce bottles of 'sulfur and lime dip' for dogs.

As far as the mattress cover goes, there was a rather large selection of them and although many of them were in the same price range... most of them looked like total trash. Thankfully a while back (when I was first researching them) I had placed a decent one (for the price) that I had found in my cart and did not have to go through the process of 'weeding out the trash' all over again. As with everything I order online though... I will believe it when I see it!

The sulfur and lime dip on the other hand is one of those items that I had no success at finding at a cheap cost (relative to the volume) when I had looked at it on numerous other occasions. It seemed like no matter how deep I dug I could not find it below forty to fifty dollars for sixteen ounces of the stuff... but today I guess I got super lucky because I found three sixteen ounce bottles of it for the price of one.

I was also going to order more of that ten percent sulfur ointment since it has been so effective in the past... but I ran out of funds during my 'shopping spree' of buying the previously mentioned items. One way or another I want to get more of that sulfur ointment soon, because part of my strategy for wiping the mites out is having it on hand so I can treat any spots (on the dog) that the sulfur and lime dip does not quite penetrate deep enough into.

The ointment is also really good for treating the outside of the dog's ears as well as around the face and neck areas and especially the tail. Although I looked for the ointment in bulk today... I could not find it in anything but those super tiny two ounce bottles that I bought it in before... which is why I went with the sulfur and lime dip instead.

Having had these dogs for the better part of twelve years or so I have had all kinds of ups and downs along the way... but overall their health has always been super awesome which is something that I have always been thankful for. Now though, two of them are 'showing their age' and I gotta say (even though it is all completely normal for aging dogs) that I feel ashamed in a way that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I dunno what I expect from myself about it all because it is not like I can 'turn back the clock' a half dozen years to when they were all in the prime of their life. The crazy part to it all, is that I have zero care in regard to how I myself appear as I continue to also 'age out' but when it comes to the dogs I have every care in the world about it.

Anyways, the weather got rather frigid last night and although today was not much better at least all that wind died down and it was actually quite sunny. Since it is going to freeze again tonight (and tomorrow I think) I left the water system offline but I may need to bring it back online tomorrow to refill my water jugs.

Hopefully tonight I can get to sleep a bit earlier because today I failed to run the dogs on the vermin like I was planning on doing. I have no idea why I like doing it first thing in the morning (aside from maybe catching the vermin snoozing) but if it gets too late in the day I just will not even bother with it... and today is a good example of that.

Well, on that note I think that I am going to call this entry 'good enough' and get on with the rest of my evening. I hope that everyone is doing well and has a nice time.
