Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1166)

Hello Everyone!

Good engagement is good, Doing some laundry, Surreal weather, Plenty of hiking & Too much grit!

Alright, I am running a wee bit behind on my writing routine this evening... and am marginally more off track than I was last night. At least last night I had a good reason to be running late whereas tonight I overslept while napping... and had to scramble around to get all my late day chores done slightly after sunset.

I am still feeling barely awake, so hopefully my nightly espresso that I am drinking will kick in at some point... and jostle me towards wakefulness. I even added some of the contents of one of those canned coffee drinks to it in an effort to turbo charge the process... but have yet to notice much difference besides the taste being a good bit sweeter than what I like it to be.

After all of yesterday's activities, you would think that I would have fallen asleep at a decent hour... but I was once again up super late... and it took me way too long to finally fall asleep. Although I dreamed rather heavily once again... I did not recall much of them once I awoke a few hours after sunrise.

Per usual of late, I dove into my new Hive engagement routine straight away... and used up a good bit of 'the words that I have in me for the day' in the process. Which is fine and all, because either my 'amount of words' is expanding... or I am beginning to not mind putting less of them into these entries... and more of them into engagement... so all in all I think it is time (and words) well spent.

Doing that routine sure is better than being stuck in my head so much... and communicating with people more being one of my goals for the year... I have no complaints that things are working out the way that they are. Heck, in the process I even stumbled across other property caretakers (or they stumbled across me) and just sharing perspectives (on the role) has been interesting to say the least.

On a different note. I eventually got outdoors this afternoon and got the laundry that I had soaking in the tub wrung out... and managed to get it hung up on the dog yard fence to dry. Although I considered washing a bunch of my socks as well... I could not quite convince myself to do so... and wound up doing some other routine chores instead.

I never mentioned it, but yesterday I churned over a bunch of the soil in the topsoil trap (so that the chickens could get to the worms) and noticed that there are now way too many leaves and sticks in it. I also noticed that there is less of that sandy clay material getting into it ever since I made that little berm beside the cabin... and began using that temporary compost mound between the berm and the trap.

That whole area between the topsoil trap and the temporary compost really needs a lot of attention... and honestly I just need to buckle down and deal with it sooner rather than later. I do not know why I have had such a difficult time being motivated to tackle the various tasks involved with all that... but I need to quit dicking around and dive into getting it done long before the springtime arrives.

There was supposed to be a bunch of rainy weather the last few days... but it really has not been that bad even though it has been raining on and off. The weather today was actually so much like the weather that is usually here during the spring that it was a bit surreal... and I wound up getting in a bunch of hiking just to make the most of it and continue getting more exercise.

With the rain the dogs (and me) have of course been tracking in way too much grit... and from the looks of things I will need to use some of my time tomorrow to once again clean the cabin out. It really is a never ending battle when it comes to all the damned grit... and someday I think that I am going to have to break down... and either lay sod in the dog yard... or at the very least get some pea gravel to spread around the cabin entrance.

Well, I think that is about it for this entry. I hope that folks are doing well and not spending too much time dwelling on things they cannot fix nor attempting to fix the things that are not broken for that matter! Ta ta for now.

I barely had enough light left to get a picture after my nap!

Thanks for reading!

I might have said it before, but you really do have a knack for making pretty mundane things (like doing chores) seem very interesting and fun to read about. 😅

By the way, I really like today's photo, looks very intense. 🏹🔫👻

Haha! Thanks!

I have no idea how I do it actually and am often like: Whoa this is dull! But then when I do the proofreading I am like: Ah that is not that bad at all.

It is really weird but once all the editing is done and I get it posted... I do enjoy reading my own stuff with a reader's perspective in mind. How I word things out also gives me a lot of insight into my headspace at the time.

Yeah, that was a freaky looking sky and I wish I had taken that picture about ten minutes earlier when the lighting was better. It was a big storm rolling in.

Always happy to see your comments! 🔫🤠👻🏹

It is probably part of being a writer! Sort of like painting with words. 😁
I don't like reading my own stuff, at all, makes me overthink. Guess that's why I like using so many photos and emojis.

I don't know what it looked like then, but I think the lighting is nice like that... really like darker photos, they always seem moody, but in a good way.

😁👻 Thanks! today was my antisocial, hide indoors while listening to music and obsessively drawing day.... but I missed commenting, which is new. Glad the silly like comments aren't too annoying. I enjoy them 🏹👻🏹

Haha I hear ya on painting with words and I get the overthinking part. It was not always that way for me but over time things changed.

I noticed about your use of photos (and drawings too) and enjoy seeing your work. I have never been into using emojis but conversing with you has shifted that a good bit!

Yeah, the photo really does not do it justice. It was so pretty and as you put it 'moody' which is something I like to try to capture in the late day sunset pictures.

Hopefully that means you will be sharing your drawing from the day but no pressure! I do like your comments and think they are more authentic than silly but either way... it is good and in no way annoying. 🔫🤠🔫

Well at least there's hope that in time the overthinking might get better.

Haha, yes I know not everyone likes the emojis... but I've given up on feeling bad for using them. They're fun and make me seem less bitchy and emotionless than I sound 🤣
Do enjoy the bows and guns though!

Sharing my work on here has been pretty scary at times, so it makes me pretty happy to hear that! I took your advice... tried to slow down and just do the thing (which ended up just being the drawing today) didn't even finish but I do have enough to share a sneak peek in the comments! (Mostly because I haven't yet decided if I'm going to do a full post on it)

Yeah, I often find that it is occasionally very difficult to fully capture the impact and feeling of a moment in any kind of image, (do enjoy trying) sometimes you just have to be there!

Out of all our interactions I never once noticed any 'bitchy emotionlessness' so to speak!

It is scary sharing work on here! You are doing fantastic though. Glad you took the 'slowing down' advice!

Okay I could say more but need to 'focus pocus' on some chores! <3

Good luck with the chores!

Forgot to add the thing to the comment. So there you go. (Still far from looking like anything decent)
Will probably pop into the comments again tomorrow. 🏹🧜🏻‍♀️

My floors have to be swept 2 times a day and there will still be sand on them, I can not keep it out.

I bet that is a hassle given all the sugar sand there.

The problem is the dogs dug up all the grass by the front door and all that is left is sand and they lay under the front steps, IN THE SAND, WHICH THEY BRING INSIDE ON THEMSELVES, they have dug so much under there that we had to jack them up and put more sand under the legs, they keep sinking them. But we love them.
