Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1167)

Hello Everyone!

Programming my mind whilst sleeping, More springlike weather, A slow burning fire & Getting in more physical activity!

Alright, I am dragging ass tonight on getting started with the writing... and am yet again starting it around the same time that I did last night. I was really trying to begin earlier (to correct my schedule) but the same thing happened where I just kept having one thing after another to attend to... before I could actually sit down and start spelling things out.

Last night I had a heck of a time falling asleep again... and pretty much drifted off around the same time as the night before... which was some time after two in the morning. I had a bunch off weird dreams again but this time I could not remember anything about them... except that I was trying to do some kind of mental programming on myself to get rid of everything that has been weighing on me lately.

I dunno if it actually worked or not but I did feel a bit 'lighter' once I finally got up and set some espresso to brewing. By then it was admittedly almost afternoon and although a big part of me wanted to not only go back to sleep... and also skip my Hive engagement routine... I decided against the former and dove into the latter... so that I would not feel like I had failed at giving it my best effort.

Since the weather was once again more akin to what it is like in the springtime I decided to make the most of the day... and got outdoors as soon as I reached a good stopping point with the engagement. Well, I say a good stopping point... but honestly I checked back in on things throughout the afternoon while going in and out of the cabin.

The main thing that I wanted to achieve was getting more ashes made for the compost... which meant that I needed to get the fire-pit cleaned out... and do something with all the remnants that were already in there. I wound up just shoveling all the partially burned material to the side... and then scooping out the rest of it and layering it all onto that little berm that I built beside the cabin some time ago.

Once the fire-pit was cleared out, I grabbed the wagon and lugged it over to that tree that had fallen near the road several weeks ago... and piled as much of it as I could easily haul into it. It was actually rather far away from the shelter site... but the terrain being rather flat made it a pleasant workout instead of some super arduous task.

I also gathered up a bunch of the fallen tree branches from around the shelter site itself... as well as a bunch of pine cones to help get the damp wood burning. Of course I also added all my burnables into the fire-pit before lighting everything on fire... but whoa it took a heck of a lot of effort to get it all going to the point where I did not have to hover over the fire and continually feed it small sticks.

Not that long into the whole affair I realized that I was going to have to spend most of the day tending the fire... so I put on some music and decided to enjoy it all as much as I could. A few times I was tempted to have a beer or two... and truly relax... but yet again the idea of struggling against a beer buzz to do the writing later in the day... made it absolutely unappealing.

Anyways, it has been nice getting in much more physical activity each day... but whoa I can really feel the effects of the caloric deficit that I have been under for all too long now. Willpower sure goes a long way towards overcoming said effects... but eventually I can tell that it will all catch up to me unless I start getting more food in my belly each day.

Well, I think that I have run out of steam here with the writing... and am just going to call it good enough. I hope that everyone is doing well and thinking for themselves... if they are capable of doing such! Ta ta for now.

I actually have quite a difficulty with writing unless I have voice input. That actually helps quite a bit and I can just sit here and talk. However the editing is the really horrible part.

Excellent post and we definitely need to connect.

My burn barrel rusted away and now I have a big pile of ash to shovel out of the bottom so I can get rid of the barrel.
