Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1205)

Hello Everyone!

A long grungy day, A quick fire, Cleaning more gear, Washing lumber, & A late day nap!

Alright, I am running a little behind schedule with my writing routine this evening... and am thinking that moving it back by another thirty minutes might be in order. That extra few minutes at the end of the day really does not matter one way or another... but it seems best to make the change now so that being 'on time' is a bit easier.

Last night I zonked out early again and slept super well until just before sunrise... and although I had a bunch of wacky dreams they were not stressful or anything. I did debate going back to sleep for a few more hours... but once I got the espresso brewing all thoughts of sleep fled my mind.

This week, I am trying to get into some kind of rhythm with packing... and I figure that the best way to do that is to get up early, do whatever I need to do online... and then get outdoors shortly thereafter. All of which is basically what I did this morning... so hopefully I can continue that trend and make some real headway with the packing.

Early in the day I got all the dog bedding (and the rug) swapped out in the cabin and mopped the floor again. This time I used some 'pine-sol' in the hot water (instead of bleach) and whoa I had forgotten how strongly that stuff smells... and all these hours later the cabin still smells like overly strong pine scent from it all.

Once that was done, I dove into cleaning more of the shop tent out and wound up not only with another full bag of stuff to throw away... but also some cardboard to burn. The cardboard itself was just two big boxes that were covered in rodent waste... so I torched them in the fire-pit and made a bunch of ashes without making a big fire that I would need to tend to afterwards.

Since a bunch of my propane tanks are stored in the shop tent, I began pulling them out... and washing them off because they have been sitting on bare dirt for quite some time now. None of the tanks seemed to have 'too much' rust on their bottom... but they did have a good amount of dirt caked onto them that was causing them to rust.

I am still unsure on what the best approach is for staging everything (up off the ground) for the move... but I began pulling some pieces of lumber from that pile near the shop tent... and began scrubbing them down with bleach water. I am still unsure if I am going to paint them or not... but what I am thinking to do is to use the lumber to make some temporary shelving in the tent that I can stage everything on.

As I have said before, I really need to pull everything out of the tent and take apart the lumber rack that I have in there.... as well as remove that plywood shelf that I have setup on some cinder blocks. I think that once I can get to that point I can then get the entire tent floor cleaned up... and begin stacking things inside in such a way that moving it later (into a moving truck) will be easy.

Anyways, I also got some more laundry soaking and flipped over all the laundry that I currently have hanging on the fence... so that it would get dry faster. I probably should have taken it all down at the end of the day... but I had taken a late day nap and it slipped my mind as I scrambled around just before sunset getting all my late day chores done.

Over the coming weeks I am sure that I am going to have many long days like the one that I had today... but I just have to keep plugging away at it all until it is finished. I am really not looking forward to dealing with most of the mess... but eventually I will get things in order have all my ducks in a row for the big move.

Well, I think that I am going to wrap this up because the fatigue is catching up to me... and I want to get to sleep early so that I can do it all over again tomorrow. I hope that everyone is doing well... and making 'every stone in their path a brick in their house' or something like that. Ta ta for now.

It was a pretty sunset!

Wow, sounds like a lot of work and preparation is needed for the move 🫣
Luckily, a bit every day will also get you there. Good luck with all the packing and stuff! 🏹🏹

Yeah, a heck of a lot of preparation (and work) is needed. Things are stored in such a way that it all makes for a less than ideal scenario for packing down. I am definitely making progress though by chipping away at it!

Thanks for the well wishes! Gonna be a slog but I will get it all done one way or another. 🏹

It sounds like you have a good start on getting things in order, little by little, you will get it done. I hope I never have to move, that would give me nightmares.
