Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1206)

Hello Everyone!

Waking early, Getting food assistance, The laundry never ends, Washing lumber & Sulfur ointment works well!

Alright, I am right on time tonight with my writing routine. I guess that pushing it back by another thirty minutes was exactly what I needed to do... because I did not even have to clamor around at the end of the day to be on time.

Last night I did not get to sleep quite as early as I was hoping to... but when I finally drifted off it was not super late either. Thankfully I wound up sleeping super soundly... and found myself waking not all that long after sunrise ready to 'meet the day' and see what I could make of it.

Rather early in the morning, I got a call from the folks who handle the food assistance program... and I spent a good bit of time talking to them as they reviewed my case. The person attending to my case was very helpful... and although I did not qualify for long-term assistance (due to missing the guidelines by two hours a month for employment) I did get approved for temporary assistance which will last three months.

Most likely I will try to land somewhere between the intense rationing that I have been doing... and 'getting enough calories in me' to do the work that I need to do... but alas I know just how tricky of a prospect that is. Maybe if there was one of those discount stores near me I could pull that off without sacrificing too much nutrition along the way... but that just is not the case and I doubt that the prices of food are likely to ever go down again.

Anyways, I once again dove into the packing routine... and got the bulk of those fabric bags that I had hanging on the dog yard fence taken down (and stored away) before it could start raining on them. There were only two of the bags that were still damp... and that was because I had failed to notice that they both had a plastic sleeve on their exterior where water was trapped.

I also got all the laundry taken down off the fence before it could get rained on... and got it all put away in the cabin. As for all the stuff that I had soaking in the tub... I got it hung up on the fence... and although it did not get very dry before the rain arrived... I at least got it out of the tub.

The impending rain today made getting everything out of the shop tent a 'no go' so I instead focused on getting more of that lumber scrubbed down... and setting the lumber that I scrubbed yesterday onto the bench for it to dry out. Depending on what the weather does over the next few days my plan is to start painting that lumber... and storing it away until I can use it for temporary shelving in the shop tent.

On a different note. I mentioned last week how I finally got more sulfur ointment... but I never mentioned what I noticed after just one application of it on the dog that has the mites. Basically, it worked exactly like I had hoped that it would... and has begun making a noticeable difference on the dog's undercarriage.

I really think that she was just licking too much of the sulfur lime dip off of herself... because it has done an awesome job on the rest of her body... but not so much on her undercarriage. I also noticed that something about the sulfur ointment must just taste bad... because she does not lick at it nearly as much as she does the sulfur lime dip.

Well, I do not have much else to report for the day... other than it was very long and productive... and that I am slowly making headway on the packing. I hope that everyone is doing well... and not stressing too much over things that they have no control over. Ta ta for now.

It was a cloudy and overcast day!

We have a cheap store, it used to be cheap, but they bought a new building and raised prices, now some things are cheaper at WM. Once in a while, we will see a good deal but they are nothing like they used to be. I also see a lot of rich cars shopping there.

It is good to hear you are making headway with the dog's mites.

I wish you could stop rationing so much, like you said you are going to need your energy for this move.
