Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1210)

Hello Everyone!

The storm blew over in the night, Some fallen trees, A wrecked outdoor kitchen & Munching on Amber Jelly Rolls!

Alright, I am beginning my writing routine about fifty-six minutes ahead of schedule this evening... just because I can! Having wrapped up my late day chores a good bit earlier than usual... I figured that I would zone out for a while (before the writing) but then I noticed how tired that I am... and want to avoid falling asleep and snoozing the night away.

Last night I fell asleep at roughly the same time that I did the night before... and although I had some intense dreams they faded from memory not long after I awoke just after sunrise. The morning itself is a bit of a blur to me... but I at least did my Hive engagement routine (without much actual engagement involved) before switching gears to looking into what it will take to start a small business once I get moved.

As far as the business goes, I am simply looking at doing a 'sole proprietorship' style business for selling black locust trees... and other farm related stuff. Although everything to do with setting the business up seems rather straight forward... I am unsure if I should commit myself to doing so until I have 'my feet under me' at the new place... and have a semblance of stability.

Anyways, the bulk of that big storm blew over during the night... and I never woke up a single time during it all... so I guess that the dogs slept through all the thunder also. This morning though, everything outside was drenched, the top of the tree that holds my cow skull had broken off... and the dead tree that my little outdoor kitchen counter/bar was attached to had fallen as well.

The wind must have been doing some real gusting given how mangled the counter was from the dead tree having been blown over (in the opposite direction in which it was leaning) and it also knocked over the ladder... and some other stuff that was leaning against the same tree. The tree itself was laying on the dog yard fence (which amazingly withstood the direct hit) but there was absolutely no salvaging what remained of the counter.

Somehow through it all neither the propane tank under the counter, the hose that ran through the counter, nor the camp stove that was resting atop the counter got damaged in all the upheaval. Needless to say, I took what remained of the counter apart today... and got the propane tank washed off (like I did with all my other tanks recently) and got the stove and its hose put away in the solar shack.

For much of the day I just piddled around doing little things like mopping out the cabin, cleaning the rug, getting that laundry out of the tub and hung up on the fence to dry. Given that the weather was mainly just overcast and gloomy (instead of raining) I could have gotten more done... but I just did not have the energy for it.

This week I am going to try to get out and squeeze in another supply run... because I already got my first installment for the food assistance that I applied for the other week. It will definitely feel weird making more than one trip in a month to do some shopping... but this time I am hoping to go to a larger store... and get as stocked up on as much food as I can... because whoa I sure need it!

Considering that I am already out of everything that I bought on my last trip except for a few hamburger patties, some potatoes and a few onions... I just have to not try to stretch that remaining stuff out for too long. Basically I want to avoid 'running on empty' and possibly undermining the progress that I have made with my routine of packing down, stuffing my face with food, resting... and then being able to do it all over again the next day.

Heck, today I even harvested a bunch of Amber Jelly Roll mushrooms that were growing on that treetop that fell (the one cow skull is on) and added them to my evening meal... just for some extra calories. Since the next few nights are going to be rather chilly (and those mushrooms seem to like the cold) I am hoping to find a bunch more of them to help bolster my meals over the coming days before I can go shopping.

Well, I think that is all the words that I have in me for this entry. I hope that everyone is doing well and not taking themselves too seriously. Ta ta for now.
