Apocalyptic Homesteading (Day 1229)

Hello Everyone!

Staying on track, New tires for the wagon, Ordering cheap tents, Cleaning the attic & Pesky stink bugs!

Alright, I am running four hours and twenty minutes behind schedule tonight with my writing routine... because I overslept whilst taking a late day nap. I had hoped to squeeze in a one hour nap a few hours before sunset... but obviously my body wanted a lot more rest than that... and whoa I sure got it.

I was also having a pretty intense dream... and although it was not super stressful it was 'exciting' (in an adventurous way) that made me want to keep on sleeping to see how things turned out. Not to get lost on that particular topic... but those kinds of dreams tend to happen few and far between... and it was nice to simply enjoy it while it lasted.

Last night I had a heck of a time falling asleep again... but thankfully I was not up as late as I was the night before. At least I managed to get up at a reasonable hour this morning... and dive into my Hive engagement routine in short order before moving on to doing some other online activities.

Since there have been several things nagging at my mind (that I will need at the new place) I finally broke down and ordered a bunch of them as birthday gifts to myself. The main things that I got ordered were some cheap instant pop up tents (for the dogs and/or gear) as well an actual camping tent which is smaller than what I would like it to be... but not so big that it will not fit inside the portable dog yard.

I also finally ordered some new tires for my wagon... and this time I got the 'solid tubeless' kind... which should be impervious to all the thorns that keep popping the tubed tires that the wagon currently has. For good measure I also ordered new cotter pins to go with the new tires... because I am unsure of what kind of shape the ones securing the current tires will be in once I remove them.

As far as the wagon goes, I am pretty stoked because for over three years now I have been using it with 'flat' tires... and although they are rigid enough to work 'okay' without holding air... they do not do well with hauling heavy loads. Having never had a wagon with 'solid' tires I am pretty stoked to see how well they work... and am not all that concerned about the extra weight the 'solid' tires will add to wagon itself.

Anyways, at some point this afternoon I got busy outdoors and flipped all the buckets and lids (that I recently washed) over... so that the rain water would drain off of them. Overall, those buckets came out rather clean and (weather permitting) I can start packing some more of the stuff in the shop tent down into them over the coming days.

Aside from my usual chores, I also swapped out all the dog bedding and the rug in the cabin again... and got the floor thoroughly mopped. That task is not one that I am all that fond of doing... but at least the cabin smells nice afterwards... and everything is getting routinely rotated out for cleaner items given how well the rain has been washing it all.

Late in the afternoon (because it was sunny but not hot) I climbed up into the attic... to begin the tedious job of sorting through everything stored up there. I do not know why I have had such a block against doing that task... but it might have something to do with the cramped space, the low light and because there are a bunch of stink bugs up there.

For the most part I have gotten rid of the stink bugs in all my gear except for what is stored in the attic... which honestly is just the right kind of environment for them so there is that! To get rid of them I have been considering pulling everything out of the attic on a dry and sunny day... piling it all on the deck outdoors... and letting the chickens find and eat the stink bugs.

Well, on that note I am going to call this entry 'good enough' and get it posted before the hour grows even later. I hope that everyone is doing well and achieving whatever goals they have set for themselves. Ta ta for now.

Yesterday's sunset!

NIce to hear that you treated yourself to some useful stuff/ gear that makes you more excited about the future. It's always a good thing to get rid of our deeply ingrained scarcity mindset, no matter how little we think we have. Everything is energy and energy likes/tends to flow✨

I have to wear tv headphones when Donny goes to bed because it keeps him awake and I have found on the nights that my mind won't let me sleep, I put them on, the tv comes through without being on and the noise from them covers the noise in my head. Maybe headphones with music low will help your mind find peace on the mind racing nights.

I am glad to hear you are getting some of the things that you will need.
