On the brink of madness

Albert feels a suffocating sensation. His armpits sweat profusely under his jacket in an air-conditioned environment. He is bothered by his favorite music on his iPod, to the point of not being able to bear it, an impulse makes him get up from the armchair and leave the office for no reason to walk without direction.

The sensation persists for days, which he associates with anguish, but the origin is unknown. He thinks about enjoying the holidays and relieving the stress of work. Soon he realizes that it will not be enough. The anguish accompanies him, causing permanent insomnia.

He is irritable, not only at work but also at home, so problems quickly arise. So he decides to visit the doctor; clinical exams show only mild sinusitis, nothing to explain the sudden and rapid weight loss. Consequently, he turns to other medical opinions that confirm each other: he is healthy. Already on the verge of madness, one of the doctors advises him to go to a psychiatrist, suspecting a panic attack.

In desperation, he telephoned the psychiatrist recommended by the last doctor consulted. He tells him the symptoms, and when they agree on the meeting, the shrink says that he will medicate him. The alerts sound in his disturbed mind, he concludes: he does not need a diagnosis, in the end, he will be under the aegis of the treating doctor, who could sentence him as incompetent. He says to himself, who has seen a cured madman.

He went to shamans and healers, baths, and miracle potions were ineffective. On the verge of succumbing, he visits temples waiting that his prayers: being heard. He improves something but does not take long to relapse. He discovers many good intentions in religiosity, but God does not answer his prayers.

Tired and about to give up, he talks to God from the depths of his heart. He doesn't wait for an answer. Shame invades him for the evil caused, and the good that he could do, but did not do. It deserves the torment. A wave of chills bristles him. Something happens in him; peace replaces the old anguish. He is a new man.
