3rd March 2024

I went to Wanchai one Sunday afternoon for my Chiropractic therapy, it's a humble neighborhood in Hong Kong Island that I seldom visit. My therapy ended at almost five in the afternoon, and I decided to have a walk before going back home. I remembered there's a famous spot in Wan Chai that I never visited, the Lee Tung Avenue.

IMG_20240227_172905.jpg

I've seen a lot of photos on FB taken in this place. There are decorations and the theme depends on special occasions like Chinese New Year, Christmas, and other festivals. But what remains permanent are the countless hanging red lanterns that spanned throughout the avenue. This draws visitors and tourists. From being a shopping boulevard, this become a popular tourist destination in Wanchai, Hong Kong. On both sides are local and international stores and restaurants.

This avenue came to life as the sun began its descent. Hanging lanterns sway gently, especially when windy, and their soft glow creates a sense of enchantment and awe. Trees got naked by the last season are adorned with sparkling lights. They add beauty to the avenue. There are benches for visitors to take a break, or simply sit down and be immersed in the place. A glowing dragon is placed at the corner, perhaps, a decoration from the recent Chinese New Year celebration alongside cherry blossom trees, albeit fake.

Walking beneath the lanterns throughout the avenue, I couldn't help but smile, make my camera work, and be mesmerized by the surrounding beauty. As if I was in a magical wonderland walking through a dreamlike pathway. I couldn't help but imagine good things within it.

For a while, I had a little escape, and felt the warm and enchanting ambiance of Lee Tung Avenue. This avenue, by the way, was also called Wedding Card Street because it was a center for publishing and manufacturing wedding cards back in the day. It underwent several revamps until it became what it is today, a shopping boulevard adorned with lanterns that attract tourists and locals. A perfect place for both day and night strolls.

I hope you have a good weekend out there.

Thanks for your time.

I always wanted to ask you this ever since I saw your travel posts on noise cash. How do you manage your time and expenses when you go on a lot of trips like this?

I didn't get a reply on noise. Maybe I have better luck here haha.

Oh, haha..

HK is just a small place, similar to Metro Manila.. You can go to different places without spending too much.. Foods are expensive, but it is just up to your strategy to keep the budget on the line... What's certain is, it's cheaper to travel here compared to pinas 😂..

Ah I see. You always visit beautiful places so I thought it might be expensive to visit such places. How long have you been in HK?

The place looks magical and beautiful. Visiting such kind of place is a dream for me. I am saying it dream because finding a place with that kind of arrangement in my country is rare and I haven't seen anytime anywhere in my country. I wish, I were there to enjoy the view.
