A Single Photo: Beauty In Lai Chi Kok (WE151)

Beauty is subjective. Not everything pleasing to your eyes may not be beautiful for me. The same goes for you. But as the adage says, everything has beauty. Maybe we all just need to appreciate every single thing around us in this world to see the real beauty.

One of the current Weekend Engagement Concepts by @galenkp is about taking one single photo of something in our place that we think is beautiful and that others will like it as well. There are a lot of beautiful things around us actually. Even an ordinary thing can be beautiful depending on how we define and sees it. And of course, depending on how we take a photo of it and create a story about it.

Currently, I'm living in a place called Mei Foo for almost
two months now. Compared to my previous place, this has lesser things to be excited about and lesser interesting spots to explore. Additionally, I don't like the noise of the vehicles on the main roads just behind this neighborhood. Since we will only live here temporarily, I didn't really care about it. What I care about more is finding a tranquil place to stay during my holidays when I am not in the mood to travel.

I once spent a day wandering around this place and its surrounding neighborhoods. I discovered a park in the neighboring place, Lai Chi Kok, which I claimed to be, by far, the nicest place to spend my free time on holidays. It is only a short distance away, probably two or three minutes, from where I am. Even though it can be crowded, especially on holidays, there are tranquil spots to unwind.

This park is comparable to my favorite park in my previous residence, albeit smaller geographically. It is surrounded by trees, there are pine trees too, and lovely flowers that serve as bird and butterfly sanctuaries. This park is beautiful, especially in autumn and spring seasons. Along with some sheds, there are a few Chinese pavilions that serve as rest areas for visitors.

A playground for kids and a wide sports complex are located at the other end part of it where anyone can do exercises or jog. Some outdoor fitness equipment is also installed around it. The elderly usually are those using the equipment. People here are truly athletic even the older ones. So most parks around Hong Kong have fitness equipment initially made for the sporty ones and the elderly.

My favorite part is the lake with a white arch bridge connecting one side to another. This has become one of the favorite spots for visitors to take Instagrammable shots. I took this photo from the pavilion with a rocky landscape located on the other side of the bridge. Despite the crowd, you can find tranquility in this place.

The lake is beautiful, isn't it? Any natural feature is beautiful to me. It looks peaceful, soothing, and still. And have you seen a group of turtles on the rock? Just check the lower left corner of the photo if you haven't. There are quite a lot of turtles living in this lake actually. Along with them are koi fish in different kinds and shapes which are typical in Chinese gardens and parks around Hong Kong with lakes. They symbolize good luck and prosperity in Chinese beliefs.

I wish I could add more photos as there are more beautiful natural features in this park, including the butterfly garden surrounded by different flowers.
