Cultural DNA Store and Messy Desk
DNA Store
Messy Desk
Cultural Center Ground Hall
May 19, 2023
One weekend after exploring the Museum of Art, I went in search of the Science Museum which I had assumed was also located in the same area. However, I ended up on the ground floor of the Cultural Center rather than the Science Museum.
From the name itself, it is where different cultural shows are held and other events. The events and shows were posted on the board and there were a lot of choices to watch. However, since I have no plan of watching any shows, I opted to have a walk around and a shop at the corner caught my attention because of its name - the DNA Store.
If I'm not mistaken, there are only a few DNA Stores in Hong Kong, two or three probably. The shop located on the ground floor of the Cultural Center is selling items related to cultural art, publication, museum souvenirs, home decor, as well as items used in daily living. Most of the items have, of course, Chinese designs.
There are accessories, stationery, finger art, legos, paintings, gift items, and others perfect as room decor.
My favorite items were the Pinocchio-inspired wooden sculptures with different figures. They are perfect as gift items and home decor as well alongside the Museum and HK souvenirs.
Before heading back home, I went back to HKMOA's ground floor and checked the Messy Desk. The desk was indeed messy, with scattered papers and coloring materials. Kids were allowed to choose whatever pattern they want and color them. Even adults were participating as well. This is just for free so everyone can take a sit and join the Messy Desk.
After coloring, participants can have the VR experience of their drawings by following the given instructions on the side of the drawing card. And do you know that the founder of this is just a very young artist? She's Jane Lee (not the one in the photo though) who won several awards both locally and internationally. You can click the link if you are curious about her. Her artworks are cute and colorful that kids truly love.
That concludes my #MarketFriday. Greetings to its host @dswigle and to all its members. Happy Friday everyone.
Thanks for stopping by.

This is what I call a store of unnecessarily necessary things haha. Design stores always have so many beautiful things to see and buy, although the ones around here are not accessible at all. How about over there?
HK is so convenient and all places are accessible. That's the main thing I like here..i can easily go to places I want to visit hassle-free.. Even to countryside 😊.. !LADY

Amazing places sis! The names are cool even! Love to have those picacho figurines!
I love the figurines on display too.. The pinocchio and that half body lady figures....the finger art is cute to assemble too.. Albeit cute in size, they actually take longer to assemble.. We have here at home assembled by me hehe !LADY
I love that Messy Desk! I would be standing in line so that I could color too! I loved coloring with my kids when they were young! Jane has an impressive amount of awards!
This was quite fun to peruse and I love the fact that they promote culture and arts, it is nice to see them cover all the bases here: the main dimensions characteristic of cultural centers: art/culture; education; leisure/recreation; social. They have it all here and need not look further.
Did you get a chance to visit the messy desk yourself?? This was so fun, @jane1289!! Thank you!
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday
