Don't Focus On Rewards, Consistency Will Pay Off In The Long Run

What was your purpose in joining this platform?

You'll be a hypocrite if you say, you join just to write because we all have a common denominator when we came here, and that is to earn rewards through writing. Unless you are a contributor or developer under the platform's blockchain. But staying longer is another story that doesn't include rewards anymore.

While making my previous post about Hive Basics For Beginners posted on another platform, I was checking Hive FAQs for references. This FACT says a lot.

Screenshot_20220710_130706.jpg

This is so true.

Recently, I came across a new user on Hive who was complaining about not getting rewards. Then I told him (twice in different comments) to interact with the community to gain an audience. I wasn't sure though what action he took after telling him about community engagement since I don't know his account and he didn't give it either.

I remembered when I first started blogging, I tend to complain about the unfair distribution of rewards because of the random tipping system and I felt like many quality contents were unrated. Until I became used to it and didn't care about rewards anymore, but rather focused on writing and interacting with the community.

When I first joined Hive writing challenges from different communities, I was quite curious about their rewards. Some use Hive Engine tokens that have a very small value. And some challenges only have a maximum reward of $5 worth of tokens with no consolation prizes for all participants.

If I would compare it to some writing contests I held on another platform, the minimum worth of rewards I gave out was $20, not including the tips given out as consolation prizes. (This isn't to brag, but just a fact)

In my Christmas Gift Giving last December 2021, I gave out more than $100 to my regular followers as my way of appreciation for their constant support.

And another gift-giving was done in the real world wherein I gave a gift to a homeless old woman, and this is one of my dreams that came true, to help less fortunate people.

Giving Gift In The Real World

In my recent, 2nd Anniversary Writing Challenge, I gave out more or less $50 worth of rewards, excluding the worth of tokens and NFTs I gave out.

png_20220605_112059_0000.png

And the funny part there was, that week was a bear season. Just imagine how much loss it was to my wallet. Yet, I didn't care about the bear market and just continued my anniversary contest.

And take note, we have no rewards pool or voting mana on this platform, so all tips we give out to articles, comments, and writing challenges are directly deducted from our own wallets.

These rewards I gave out were the fruit of consistency, and I just shared them back with the community. And that's how I got to the top 10 tippers.

IMG_20220717_114408.jpg

At the beginning of the random rewarder tipping system, I was only getting random tips from the tipping bot, and there were days that I received no tips from it at all. It was frustrating at first as we all exerted effort in blogging but our works are not being rated well and the system was just so random. But despite not getting tips, I continued giving out tips. It may be small, but enough to motivate the receiver.

It wasn't only me, but many of us. However, we didn't give up and just forgot about the unfair tipping system. We just continued blogging and interacting with the community. Until our consistency was paid off and we got regular upvotes from the tipping bot.

What's the point here?

IMG_20220710_153040.png

Rather than focusing on the reward, just work on developing a good reputation and connecting with the community. Consistency pays off in the long run.

When posting articles on Hive, I don't care if I'll receive a big reward or just a few cents. We've been there and we're used to it. I'm joining several writing challenges but I don't even care if I'll win or lose, and how many rewards I'll receive from those challenges.

The main reasons why I like joining challenges are to interact with the community, meet different people, gain an audience, build a better reputation, and read different stories. It's not really just the rewards that matter on blogging, but the fun of joining challenges and meeting different people.

As for me, writing and interacting became part of my daily routine and I feel like my day isn't complete without doing so. So small or big rewards, it doesn't matter anymore. I just enjoy interacting with the community and sharing different stories.

So instead of complaining about your small reward, just focus on building a better reputation through engaging with the community while creating quality content. Again, it's the fun that matters more and the lessons and knowledge we receive through this platform. And just because you are not earning well, you will stop blogging. Just continue doing the right thing until you succeed and get a better name.

Ayyy oo sis. Naalala ko yung mga pa contest at giveaway mo sa kabila last year 🤗
One of the most generous nga sa read ehh.

You're right Jane, there is almost no one that came to hive without the mind of getting rewards but as time goes on, we get to learn more and realize that the reward are even the least things we benefit.

Over the few months I've been here, I've learned a lot that on a normal day I wouldn't have gotten the opportunity to learn. Getting to engage with different authors around the world keeps helping me think outside the box.

Consistency pays big time, it's just a matter of time, all what is required of us is to get to be in a friendly environment with our fellow Hivians and if possible, put a good smile on their face.

You've spoken so well Jane and I'm so privileged to read this, thank you for the motivation, it is truly inspiring.

Thank you..
You're one of those I met here and I also learned lessons from your posts..

but as time goes on, we get to learn more and realize that the reward are even the least things we benefit.

It's really true...once we enjoy what we are doing here and interacting with others, we wouldn't mind about the rewards anymore.. ☺

I'm a hypocrite, I joined this platform to write only. LOL!
Anyways, it's true that those who stay long in writing or content-sharing platforms are those who have the passion for it. Sure we are here for the rewards, but that should be secondary only
Platforms like HIVE are community driven. The more we interact with the community, the more chances of getting those rewards.

I tried my best to enjoy and create friendship here.

Yun ang mas importante.. Yung natututunan. It's really toxic at first na hndi narerewardan ang effort.. But as you get along and learn to enjoy writing. You wouldn't mind about rewards anymore..

Expect nothing, then be surprised 😜

That's my mindset, eh? So happened when the harvest is good, "Chamba" when low; it's OK, hehe. Also, as usual, it's a battle for beginners,s hehe.

When I first joined in other blogging platform I always complain that the rewards are distributed unfairly but as time passed by I got used to it and learned that instead of complaining why not interact with the community and enjoy and from that, every time na mag start Ako ng journey ko as other platforms I always focus na on interacting with the community. And I hope my effort in interacting with the community here will have a fruitful harvest 😄

Of course, in the long run. It won't come too soon. You need to work hard to get a fruitful harvest..

This is the mistake a lot of people make: they have unrealistic expectations. How can someone just be starting to blog here and they are already expecting to earn as much as someone who is over 5 years old and consistently engages with the community? All these blogging platforms like hive and readcash reward effort, you have to put in the effort and slowly build your account to get to the top, and you do this by consistently publishing and engaging with every other person, building a name for yourself. But sadly a lot of people are lazy when it comes to this and will rather look for ways to cheat the system and start crying when it eventually backfires

True.. Engagement is always necessary anywhere we go to build a reputation.. Money doesn't grow on trees.. It must be earned through hard work.

Sabi ko kahit saang platform ako mapadpad, mas okay na ibuild up muna ung reputation pati audiences mo.. Money will come after hehehe.

True. It's like planting a seed. If we keep watering it each day, it will grow and we'll reap the fruit of our labor worthily 😊

Guilty as charged. Well, you are right ateee, my goal in joing this kind of platform is to generate extra earnings and it really affects me intensively whenever I don't get rewarded. But as the time goes by, my perception changed and growth becomes my main motivator in writing. I wanted to bring back the old and creative me. I feel so left behind sa aspect na ito eh.

Most of people just think about rewards and that is the reason because of what they can't develop too much and leave everything in the middle.

In my case I always try to consistence and it really help me to interact with others and make new friends.

Anyway you have written well.

Your point is excellent and very true. I can relate to what you wrote on that other platform we put our hand in our pocket to reward our followers, and by the way, we did it with pleasure, at least in your case and in mine. The Hive system is different and I will not say if it is better or worse, I will not fall into it, but it has a much more long-term future approach because it does not depend on a fund financed by a person. Plus the chances of getting a long-term benefit within the same platform without necessarily having to write as your account grows because of the curation rewards are a good bonus.

On that platform, and on this one we have to be patient, make a name for ourselves by engaging with the community, participating and showing some commitment to the blockchain and its growth, HP's initiatives, and of course follow the explicit rules of each community and the implicit rules in general, such as not self-voting, as many fall into that mistake.

In short, what an excellent topic and treated with great clarity for those who are starting. Cheers!

True.. What I like here is the long-term benefits...the hive staking for instance, and of course, the different communities and people I met that make my stay here worthwhile..

wow, a $160k tip?!? 💪😁

I hear ya about the rewards, it took me a looooooooooong time to understand it and how that works..

u seem to have figured it out faster.. good for u! :)

I mostly just do hive because its fun and cool. I'm not real social in my real life, so I get to be more social on here! (the rewards do add up too, which is nice!)
