24 February 2023

One day I was wandering in K11 Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong and stumbled upon the Legoland Discovery Center. Upon entering the door to the escalator, the giant Donut was the center of attraction with a height that almost reaches the top of the 2nd floor. Below the giant Donut was his playhouse. However, to enter the playhouse, one must pay a certain amount, so I didn't bother. Apart from the Donut playhouse, there are other themed play areas too in other parts of the Legoland Discovery Center.

As I walked through the entranceway, the architecture of the place was another attraction. There were lego structure displays in the exhibition area and they vary depending on the occasion. Since it was Chinese New Year when I visited the place, the displays were related to Chinese like the dancing tiger and lion lego. There was also a lego set of Hong Kong's bustling city with different vehicles on the road.

Adjacent to it was the Gift Shop. And from the name itself, you can tell what is inside. I never imagined Lego prices to be that expensive though. I was shocked upon seeing the prices of some items on display. There was a white house that cost HK$849 which is equivalent to more than a hundred US dollars. The iron man lego set was HK$4299 or more than US$500. Only the lego addict will purchase such items at those prices.

My favorite part was Pick & Build where you can build your own lego toys depending on the price you have paid. You can build mini figures or mini cars. I was interested to make my own, but when I saw the price, I backed out, lol. The small cup was HK$99 and the big one was HK$179. It was kind've expensive for me.

But seeing the smiles of the kids playing with lego toys, they worth priceless. Back when I was younger, I wanted to have a lego set of any kind but my parents can't afford to buy one for me 😅. Now I understand why, lol. There are different kinds of lego set perfect as gifts to kids on special occasions. Some adults even like building lego. So Lego is truly for all ages.

I have a similar Legoland in Vancouver Oakridge center I had done a quick tour of a few years ago. An amazing place for kids as my kids were growing out of build your toy concept. Expensive kits and the pay by the kilo alright. Customer experience is the premium we're paying for.

It's more of a store front than a roomy discovery center therefore smaller footprint. The place is located in an affluent area and the local parents may tend to make Legoland a handy place to leave grandpa and the kids there while shopping.
I'm not sure if it's still operating since the pandemic.

Haha.. Why do grandparents become babysitters? 😂. I usually see that scene here.

I remember playing and putting Legos together when I was younger. I think they were between $5 -$15 the few sets I got. Back some time in the 1980's.

I have a coworker that collects military memorabilia in the form of Legos. Primarily tanks and has gotten into ships. They are of good size and he talks about the time it takes to put together. Has them all displayed on a shelf at work The cost of them are a couple hundred dollars piece. He's a bit odd so the money he spends is probably well spent, haha.

The more he puts his attention into his obsession the better for all of us. Every have that person who is odd who tries to make a conversation with anybody? Well he's that person. He brings things up where you scratch your head and say who says that? Haha. Don't take his toys away 🤣😂🤣

I didn't know legos can be quite expensive and upon seeing that building, I didn't know that people can invest so much on legos.

I can tell you had fun looking around, happy weekend.

Legos have always been expensive toys. But they are so much fun. Seeing your posts has made me a little nostalgic for when I used to assemble legos with my son ;)

Lego Discovery is a pretty cool place. Legos have always been expensive, as long as I can remember. I can remember buying them and wondering how such little pieces cost. I see more adults using them than kids nowadays. Kids are too busy with their gadgets and hand helds to play with mere toys!

Thank goodness for adults to save the Lego industry!

Cool post and I love legos! Hello!! Market Friday is running so late this week, apologies! I was under the spell of the family holiday, surrounded by family and obligations, although they are heart-warming wonderful ones! No internet or sketchy at best has been my best friend. Yikes, right? To be honest, I tried and failed to even post this week, but, I was so very happy to see you putting one out! Thank you! I apologize for the delay in answering and I hope you know how much I appreciate the great participation.

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. There have been so many carrying #MarketFriday for me in my absence! I am so happy to see that! I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product. Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work. Things need to be explained.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
5.PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
  6. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!
