How We Spent The Holy Week As A Catholic

As a Catholic believer, holy week is the time when we devote ourselves in prayers and fast to cleanse ourselves not just physically but also spiritually. My family and I follow a tradition where we visit different churches during holy week. This is commonly known in our native as Visita Iglesia or church visit. Normally, we visit 13 churches but this year, we were only able to visit 10. I would like to share with you all about our experience and the architectural structures of the churches. These churches are all located in Cebu City.

1. Mabolo Church

The first church we visited was the Mabolo Church as it is the nearest in our house. Despite the scorching heat, many people have started their church visit too.

2. Carmelite Monastery

This church is where we often give fresh eggs to the nuns as offerings for our petitions.

3. Our Lady Of The Sacred Heart Parish

Found this beautiful flower in their garden.

4. Asilo de la Milagroso

Adjacent to Asilo church is an orphanage for children. I remember having one of our outreach programs in this orphanage for our NSTP subject. These children age from new born to teenagers. It is believe that the Asilo de la Milagroso church is the home for miracles especially to the childless couples.

6. Two Hearts Parish

This is by far my favorite church design. I love the combination of gold lightings inside the church.

7. Sacred Heart Parish Church

We went to Sacred Heart Parish after dinner, like most people did too. During this time, processions from different religious groups have already started.

8.Cebu Archdiocesan Shrine of Saint Pedro Calungsod

This is located beside Sacred Heart parish.

9.Santo Rosario Parish

It was past 8pm by the time we finished the 10th church. We decided to order pizza to end our long fruitful day. Since it's still holy week and we are abstaining meat in our diet, we opted to order spinach dip and cheesy garlic pizza instead.
