HIVE OPEN MIC #183 (ENG/ESP): Hasta la Vista / Goodbye - "She's Only Sleeping" (Original Song)

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you Cape Town in South Africa!
Welcome to Week 183 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for this week is the is “Hasta la Vista”! Is this supposed to be a week of songs from the Terminator soundtrack? That is probably the only place that English speakers like me have heard the phrase before!
The direct translation for this Spanish phrase is “Until the View”, but it actually means “Until I see you again” or basically “Goodbye”!
For those of you who don’t know, I’ve decided to alter my Three Tune Tuesday posts to be based around the Hive Open Mic theme of the week, and how I would go about tackling it. In that post, I suggested three cover songs that would suit the theme well, and you’re welcome to borrow any of the ideas if you still want to take part in the Hive Open Mic this week!
The suggestions were:
• “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by John Denver
• “Goodbye My Lover” by James Blunt
• “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth
However, for my own entry this week, I’d like to take off my cover hat and present to you an original song I have written about how even the final “Goodbye” might not turn out to be the last “Goodbye” after all. It is called “She’s Only Sleeping”, and it is one of the softer, sadder, more delicate pieces I have written.
In my mind, it is a song about a parent comforting a child. Even in my own mind it has sometimes been a beloved pet that has passed away, while at other times it has been a grandmother. I think it is good that I leave that ambiguous and let each person who hears it decide for themselves. For many older people it could be about their own mother I suppose!

La traducción directa de esta frase en español es “Hasta la vista”, pero en realidad significa “Hasta que te vuelva a ver” o básicamente “Adiós”.

Sin embargo, para mi entrada de esta semana, me gustaría quitarme el sombrero de portada y presentarles una canción original que escribí sobre cómo incluso el “Adiós” final podría no ser el último “Adiós” después de todo. . Se llama "She's Only Sleeping" y es una de las piezas más suaves, tristes y delicadas que he escrito.
En mi opinión, es una canción sobre un padre que consuela a un niño. Incluso en mi mente a veces ha sido una querida mascota la que ha fallecido, mientras que otras veces ha sido una abuela. Creo que es bueno dejar eso ambiguo y dejar que cada persona que lo escuche decida por sí mismo. Para muchas personas mayores, ¡supongo que podría tratarse de su propia madre!

Ah thanks my man! I sometimes wonder if this kind of song is my specialty - but as I'm sure you can imagine, it is only appropriate for the type of venue and audience where people are actively listening! I'm glad it has found you here - and I'm also glad I challenge myself in writing and playing other sorts of original songs too! It is more fun to play a varied set, and I think it's more to listen to one as well!

I love the interpretation of it meaning she's only sleeping, because most goodbyes are not a final goodbye.
It usually comes back to life after a short break.
That reminds me of a song called "Last Kiss" with the lines "She's gone to Heaven so I've got to be good, so I've got to be good... so I can see my baby when I leave this world."
This surely leave a smile on our faces.
It is never easy to say goodbye, let alone help a child cope with a situation where he or she must say goodbye to a loved one. A beautiful lyric full of depth. Beautiful song. Applause for you. Thank you for sharing your talent.🥰
I have been lucky in that I think of my childhood dog or my grandmothers (who got to live to be very old before passing) when I sing this song... but my own parents are in their mid-70s now and so I see them properly aging now, and it's scary.

The necklace!
The center piece is called Flick Glass that is made by a little company here in Cape Town. It reflects light beautifully. My wife and I gave them to each other.
My wedding ring is on there too because I have thin bony fingers with big knuckles, so that any ring that fits over my knuckle feels a bit loose. Also, would I have to take my ring off to do hobbies like grappling (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), surfing or rock-climbing (and even guitar playing really). Still, I want my wedding ring to be on display.
Finally, the coloured beads are there to remind me of a story that I heard when I started being involved with The Mankind Project - the story basically helps men see the value of connecting with their emotions, being authentic, honest and open, and letting their true selves out as much as possible. Unfortunately, society has often trained us to do the opposite.
