Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to Week 169 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. I actually got to pick the theme this week, which was a wonderful honour. I chose the theme “War” – because it is challenging and emotionally charged.

I have written an original Anti-War protest song of my own called “God Cries in Thunder”. It is something I sing either solo, or with my friend @clairemobey in our duo “MobeyDick”. It has a sort of jazz verse with a simple blues chorus… I see I am not the only one posting original songs for this week’s theme, which is great!

Thank you so much for checking in! Hopefully see you next week?

Lyrics for “God Cries in Thunder” by @jasperdick / MobeyDick (original)

I saw the news today, but I had to look away, there’s blood on the border
Of another land, where they don’t understand, the true price of a soldier…

And over and over it goes
For reasons that nobody knows
Fear and hatred keeps pulling us under
Until God cries in Thunder
Can you see, can you hear, can you feel, can you tell?
God cries in Thunder!

I saw the news again, but I couldn’t take the pain, that war is not over
Another soldier dies, and another family cries, over lines drawn on paper…

And over and over it goes
For reasons that nobody knows
Fear and hatred keeps pulling us under
Until God cries in Thunder
Can you see, can you hear, can you feel, can you tell?
God cries in Thunder!
Can you see, can you hear, can you feel, can you tell?
God cries in Thunder!

¿Puedes ver, puedes oír, puedes sentir, puedes decir?

¿Puedes ver, puedes oír, puedes sentir, puedes decir?
Dios llora en Trueno!
¿Puedes ver, puedes oír, puedes sentir, puedes decir?
Dios llora en Trueno!

Our Spotlight Artist of the Week 169, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for giving us such an important theme that has brought out the best feelings of the musicians in our community.

Wow, the lyrics of this song are awesome and thought provoking, I see you had this planned from the very beginning and your idea was great. An original song that lives up to your talent. I send you a big hug on behalf of those who haven't seen you yet, but I'm sure your performance will be a success.

I want to congratulate you for having the responsibility of choosing this week's theme, it has been inspiring.
The lyrics of your song call us to reflection because we should all be concerned about the pain of war, because we do not know when it will be our turn to live it.

Thanks man! It's actually not a cover but an original song I wrote myself in the blues style. More recently I am singing it in my duo (MobeyDick) with my friend @clairemobey, so that she harmonizes with me!

Wow wow wow! This is it!
Really impressive that it is an original, being the spotlight artist that you are with this song 😊

I love the lyrics, especially that part of listening to the news... Not everyone is at a war area but we do hear how it is affecting others far away on news, we should pray for them always.

Nicely present Sir, I enjoyed it 🙂
