MUSIC: Three Tune Tuesday 137 - 3 Songs on the Theme of “Tus Luces Sobre Mi (Your Lights on Me)” (Hive Open Mic Week 196)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

Welcome to "Three Tune Tuesday", an initiative started by @ablaze. It is week 137 overall! My current pattern for how I will be contributing to TTT is to take the Hive Open Mic challenge Theme of the Week and give suggestions on how I would tackle it!

For those of you who are not familiar, the Hive Open Mic is a weekly challenge on the Hive Open Mic community for anybody who loves to sing. You don’t even need to play an instrument, a backing track or a cappella is also fine as far as I can tell!

Different artists are given the chance to choose a “Theme of the Week” that the posts should be based on. Often it can be difficult for people to think about easy songs that might fit that theme… so let me see if I can be of any assistance to the people who still might not know what to try by the time Tuesday comes around!

As you can see, it was the turn of @isbelhiv02 to pick a theme, and this week the theme is “Tus Luces Sobre Mi”, which means “Your Lights on Me” in English!

So, let me have a good think… Whose Lights on Me exactly? Let’s think of some options…

SONG NUMBER 1

“Whenever God Shines His Light on Me” – Van Morrison and Cliff Richard

This fabulous duo teamed up to praise God with this beautiful song back in the late 1980s… Here is the video:

I have actually tackled this song before for Hive Open Mic #145, when the theme was “Glory”… so I guess I can’t do it again! Hahaha – here’s my effort back then:

SONG NUMBER 2

“You are my Sunshine” – Johnny Cash

This song is super old (about 1940) and the writer is disputed… but let me show you how Johnny Cash tackled it during his legendary Rick Rubin recording sessions (where he also did his famous covers of “Personal Jesus” by Depeche Mode and “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails):

“Shine” – Collective Soul

Perhaps you feel a bit more like some 1990s rock? One of my favourite groups growing up was Collective Soul. I did their song “December” for Hive Open Mic two weeks ago when the theme was “End of December” (https://ecency.com/hive-105786/@jasperdick/htzesnfj), but their most famous song of all, “Shine”, has a chorus that goes “Oh, Heaven let Your Light Shine Down” – so I could easily land up doing another one of their songs this week! Let’s see what you think:
